24 Hours

Music icon Tom Jones returns with his first album of new material to be released in the United States in over 15 years. "24 Hours" represents another milestone for Tom Jones; from interpreting a classic Bruce Springsteen track (The Hitter) to writing and working alongside the likes of Bono and The Edge (Sugar Daddy).

Utilizing modern day producing maestros, Future Cut (Lily Allen), Tom Jones' "24 Hours" showcases the best of what has made him a legend. From the pulsing first single, If He Should Ever Leave You, to the soaring I'm Alive; from the reflective title track to the emotional depths of The Hitter, Tom Jones delivers one of the most powerful albums of his career.

Having sold over 100 million albums throughout his career and still touring and performing over 200 days out of the year, Tom Jones brings his best to this latest recording and shows why he remains at the top of his craft after 40 years.

2008-11-30 -- 1/5:: Where is my Tom Jones
I was waiting for Tom's new CD for a long time, and what did I get? Thanks Amazon for having the play song function, that saved me time and money. There are 2 songs that I can still listen to, that's about it. Tom still has a great voice, and energy, but please sing some nice ballads that I could sing along and melt in my fantasies. I recommend buying this CD who love his voice only, because the song selection is very week.

2008-11-29 -- 5/5:: Awesome! Tom Jones at his best!
I have waited for this cd for quite some time and I'm not disappointed at all! Sir Tom Jones delivers the goods on all the songs here!If you are a fan pick this up!! To the person who bemoans this album as "Pop", Tom Jones has always been Popular and this album does not vary from that. Tom keeps a modern edge to his tunes here and is not merely a retro-act! Lets see a HUGE tour for this cd!!

2008-11-28 -- 5/5:: Better Than Ever
I have been a fan of Tom's from day one of his career. This album is fantastic. His voice is better than ever with an unbelievable range. The songs are pure Tom. The Hitter is a little morbid, but the beat and the way Tom sings it, you can over look that. I have heard Tom sing at the MGM three times and do hope songs from this album are in the show when I got next year. If you are a fan of Tom, buy this album.

2008-11-27 -- 2/5:: Tom Jones at his worst
Someone is saying that this CD is a must to have for his fans. Well, I will pass. I have all Tom Jones's CDs up until he switched to a new style, simply POP. The move was to bring and amaze the young crowd, and partially he did. He disappointed all the ladies, who saw him as a sex symbol, singing their favorite tunes, even being in their sixties. Drama and passion never dies with age.

Well... as a music lover, all his new songs do not excite me at all. In fact they sound like a bunch of noise.
On the contrary his older songs tell a story, about love and life and have great music. I never get tired listening to them. I am hoping that one day he will make all his older fans, especially ladies happy again. One of them is my Mom...

P.S. Two stars for the hope.

2008-11-27 -- 5/5:: Soulful, Fun, Awesome-- Tom Jones at His Best
I admit up front that I am a big fan of Sir Tom's... if he sings a song, I will give it a listen. With that in mind, I did my very best to listen to "24 Hours" and rate it on its own merits.

If you are a fan of Tom Jones, you should love this album. He doesn't "reinvent the wheel" here, he just does what he does best: belt out soulful, fun, awesome tunes. If you are NOT a fan of Tom Jones, you should still enjoy this album. If the stylings of Amy Winehouse or Duffy have done anything for you, pick up "24 Hours", because you will find a lot of that same brassy, ballsy UK soul.

What is truly remarkable to me is Jones' voice. While other "comeback" crooners like Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, and most recently Neil Diamond ("Home Before Dark" is an excellent album, by the way) have lost a little of their voices' depth, Tom Jones sounds as strong as he ever has.

This is a great album from a great talent. Tom Jones fans rejoice... A-Tomic is back!

"LITTLE DARLING (I NEED YOU)" - Origionally released 1971/72. THE FLIRTATIONS, (previously The Gypsies) are an all-female musical group who have recorded since the early 1960s. In 1962 in New York, four women from South Carolina formed The Gypsies. They w

ere Lestine Johnson and sisters Ernestine Pearce, Shirley Pearce and Betty Pearce. In 1964 they signed to Old Town Records, where they released their debut single "Hey There, Hey There". The song achieved airplay only on local radio stations, but their next single — the J.J. Jackson-written "Jerk It" — was more successful, reaching #111 (pop) and #33 (R&B) in the spring of 1965. Despite the relative success of "Jerk It", Lestine Johnson left the group, replaced by Viola Billups. The Gypsies released only two singles on Old Town Records in 1966, giving them a total of four. That year, now on Josie Records, the four women redubbed themselves The Flirtations and released the now-regarded northern soul ballad "Change My Darkness Into Light". It was ignored by DJs and sales suffered. The quartet then moved to Festival Records, where they released "Stronger Than Her Love" and "Settle Down" as a single, which failed to spark much interest. Betty Pearce left the group, reducing the Flirtations to a trio. After winning a small local talent contest in 1968 to see who could sound the most like the Supremes, they packed their bags and headed for England, where they signed to the Parrot label. (Tom Jones was signed to the label at that time.) Their only release was "Someone Out There" b/w "How Can You Tell Me?". Although the song received more airplay and recognition than their other singles, it did little. In late 1968 the trio went to Deram Records and released what would become their signature recording: "Nothing But A Heartache" — a dense, dynamic, earth-shattering melodrama produced by Englishman Wayne Bickerton and written by Bickerton with Tony Waddington. The B-side was a Christmas song entitled "Christmastime Is Here Again". In early 1969 the record was released in the United States, but with a different B-side ("How Can You Tell Me?"). In March "Nothing But A Heartache" entered the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #34 in May and remaining on the Hot 100 for a then-impressive 14 weeks. The single also reached #31 in Cash Box. Reminiscent of mid-60s Supremes particularly "Stop! In the Name of Love" — the single is now generally regarded as a pop and northern soul classic. The follow-up was less of a dance tune than the previous single. "South Carolina" was a ballad that reached only #111 pop in July 1969. In 1970, "Keep On Searching" was released and did nothing. However, this may have been due to confusion over whether the newest single was "Searching" or "What's Good About Goodbye My Love". The latter rocketed to #17 R&B in early 1970, but failed to make a dent in the pop charts. In July 1970 the trio scored another hit with the original version of Tom Jones's "Can't Stop Loving You". The song made #96 in Cash Box. 1971 saw their sixth and last Deram single, "Give Me Love". Taken from their 1970 LP Sounds Like the Flirtations, it did not do well in the charts. The rest of their singles were not released in the U.S. Throughout the 1970s the Flirtations released material on various labels. 1971 and 1972 Polydor titles included "Little Darling (I Need You)", "Take Me In Your Arms (& Love Me)", "Hold On To Me Babe" and "Love A Little Longer". In 1973, their Mojo Records releases included "Why Didn't I Think of That". In 1975 it was RCA's turn: "Dirty Work", "Mr. Universe", and "One Night of Love", which gained enough sales and airplay for another LP, Love Makes the World Go Round, just before 1976. In 1977 they released the disco single "Earthquake", whose 12-inch version was a hit in 1983. Loretta Noble replaced Viola Billups in 1972. Viola Billups had a solo career as Vi and as Pearly Gates. The Flirtations sang high energy songs such as "Time", "Earthquake", "Read All About It" and "Back On My Feet Again" through 1989. In 2007 the group recorded two new songs, "Resist the Temptation" for Ian Levine's album Northern Soul 2007, and "Run for the Exit" for Disco 2008, both also featuring solo tracks by Viola.

the lace chiffon gowns for DSB in the 90's. We call it the #@!&eral Gown for obvious reasons. The gown was worn at Blazers in London in 1984, on British tv in 1987 and in Berlin in 1987 and several other occasions in the late 80's. It was sadly destroyed in a fire in the early 90's! I (Who Have Nothing) Music written by Carlo Donida. English lyrics by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller recorded: September 6, 1963 released: UK: September, 1963 on Columbia single DB 7113 US: March 10, 1964 on United Artists single UA 699 charted: single UK: #6, September 26, 1963 Released on a single in 1963. With this song Shirley Bassey reached position number six in the UK single charts and stayed in the charts for 20 weeks. Originally this was the Italian song "Uno Dei Tanti" by Donida / Mogul and J. Leiber and M. Stoller then wrote the English lyric to it. Since the 1960s to this day Shirley Bassey sings this song on almost every live concert and therefore it is available on many collections and live recordings and videos. It has also been recorded together with the London Symphony Orchestra on the album I Am What I Am. This recording has the wonderful long finale with the solo trumpet that you'll hear at the live concerts too, but this is not on the original recording. Another orchestral arrangement that I like very much is that from the 1989 album La Mujer where Shirley Bassey sings this song in Spanish: Hoy No Tengo Nada. In 1972 a new English studio recording was released on an extremely scarce DJ-only promo record, but this recording has never been officially released. Other artists that have performed this song and have reached US Billboard chart positions have been Ben E. King who has reached position number 29 1963. And Tom Jones climbed to No. 14 in the charts 1970. And 1979 Sylvester (James) reached No. 40 in the charts with this song. In a concert in The Netherlands in 1980 Shirley Bassey said before singing "I (Who Have Nothing)": "This is an ideal moment to sing a song Tom Jones stole from me. Well, I gave it to him... I couldn't resist." For a decade, from the mid-'50s to the mid-'60s, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller were the most successful song writing team in popular music, writing hits for groups like the Coasters and the Drifters and giving Elvis Presley some of his best material. The songs included for example "Love Potion #9," "Jailhouse Rock," "Spanish Harlem," and "Stand By Me." A Broadway musical revue called "Smokey Joe's Cafe" opened 1995 and it contains 38 of the songs of Leiber / Stoller, including "I (Who Have Nothing)". Premiere of the musical has been on Thursday, March 2nd, 1995 at the Virginia Theatre in New York. Lyrics I (Who have nothing) I, I who have nothing I, I who have no one; Adore you and want you so I'm just a no one, with nothing to give you but oh... I love you You, you buy her diamonds, bright, sparkling diamonds. But believe me, dear, when I say that she can give you the world (sometimes: That you can give her the world) but she'll never love you the way, I love you You can take her any place she wants to fancy clubs and restaurants; But I can only watch you with My nose pressed up against the window pane.. I, I who have nothing I, I who have no one; Must watch you, go dancing by wrapped in the arms of somebody else when darling 'tis I Who love you. Lyrics New York-medley Start spreading the news I'm leaving today I wanna be a part of it New York, New York These vagabond shoes Are longing to stray And step around the heart of it New York, New York If I can make it there I'd make it anywhere It's up to you New York, New York New York, New York So good they named it twice New York, New York All the scandal and the vice I love it! New York, New York Now isn't it a pity What they say about New York City New York, New York So good they named it twice New York, New York All the scandal and the vice I love it! New York, New York Now isn't it a pity What they say about New York City My little town blues Are longing to stray I wanna be a part of it New York, New York If I can make it there I'd make it anywhere It's up to you New York, New York (Transcribed by Roman)

hestra 1984 on the album I Am What I Am. A live recording is available on the album Live at Carnegie Hall. Lyrics And I love you so: And I love you so The people ask me how How I've lived till now I tell them I don't know I guess they understand How lonely life has been But life began again The day you took my hand And yes, I know How lonely life can be The shadows follow me And the night won't set me free But I don't let the evening get me down Now that you're around me And you loved me too Your thoughts are just for me You set my spirit free I'm happy that you do The book of life is brief And once a page is read All but love is there That is my belief And yes, I know How loveless life can be The shadows follow me And the night won't set me free But I don't let the evening get me down Now that you're around me And I love you so The people ask me how How I've lived till now I tell them I don't know (Transcribed by Roman) I (Who Have Nothing) Music written by Carlo Donida. In a concert in The Netherlands in 1980 Shirley Bassey said before singing "I (Who Have Nothing)": "This is an ideal moment to sing a song Tom Jones stole from me. Well, I gave it to him... I couldn't resist." Lyrics I (Who have nothing): I, I who have nothing I, I who have no one; Adore you and want you so I'm just a no one, with nothing to give you but oh...
