~ Bargain - The Who
Views: 45023 |  |  |  |  | Bargain by The Who, 1971
The song is about losing all your material goods for spiritual enlightenment, thus being a 'bargain'. Pete Townshend wrote this as an ode to Meher Baba, who was his spiritual guru. Meher Baba was from India, where he worked with ...More the poor and served as spiritual adviser to Mahatma Gandhi. He developed a worldwide following by the '60s, and died in 1969 at age 75. Townshend believed in his message of enlightenment, which was a big influence on Who songs like "Baba O'Riley" and "See Me, Feel Me."

{Doctor:}
He seems to be completely unreceptive.
The tests I gave him show no sense at all.
His eyes react to light the dials detect it.
He hears but cannot answer to your call.
{Tommy:}
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.
{Doctor:}
There is no chance no untried operation.
All hope lies with him and none with me.
Imagine though the shock from isolation.
When he suddenly can hear and speak and see.
{Tommy:}
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.
See me, feel me, touch me, heal me.
{Doctor:}
His eyes can hear
his ears can see his lips speak
All the time the needles flick and rock.
No machine can give the kind of stimulation,
Needed to remove his inner block.
{Father:}
I often wonder what he's feeling.
Has he ever heard a word I've said?
Look at him now in the mirror dreaming
What is happening in his head?
What is happening in his head?
I wish I knew, I wish I knew. |
