3 Doors Down

"We're not a band that just goes through the motions," says Chris. "We go at everything hard. What I'm most proud of about the new album is we left ourselves a way out. Everybody hit the proverbial brick wall. Everybody fell down and everybody got back up, then we all went back in the room and, what was great, was we found all these different paths to go down."

`Different' being the operative word here. Because what 3 Doors Down did after reconnecting with family, and `soul searching', was opt for a new process to the creative part of their relationship. One that emphasized the undeniable strength of the group. The fact that the sum is greater than any individual part. "It is all about getting in that room and hashing it out," recalls lead guitarist Matt Roberts. "If you look at a song like `Train,' it was one of the first songs we wrote for this album. It's kind of a building block that exemplifies the spirit of collaboration. Brad came with words and a melody and we hammered it out." "I remember I had that one in my head at home," laughs Brad. "I was singing it so much a friend threatened to kill me if I didn't get it down." Matt also remembers it as one of the `most fun songs to put together. "The best moments of this band have always been about keeping it a fun ride. You need that sense of accomplishment, but you also need to keep the process comfortable.". Adds Chris: "I think it's also fair to say we are one of the only `southern' bands who has the balls to put a song like `Train' out there these days."

The band rented an old farmhouse South of Franklin, Tennessee, where they would not only write songs, but live together, for a while. Says Brad: "The farmhouse was great because it became a wholehearted experience where we just focused on the writing. It was such a close-knit atmosphere, reconnecting us after we had been doing our own thing for a while. It set a cool mood for the entire record, writing out in the country around this fireplace in the basement. Just locking ourselves away and doing it."

Matt adds that the unique setting soon sparked 26 or 27 song ideas. "But winter turned colder than expected in Tennessee. So we decided to head to a warmer climate." The band found a ten bedroom mansion in a remote section of Orlando, Florida. They brought in Seventeen Days producer, Johnny K. and turned the house into a recording studio.

The originality of the two locations rejuvenated the band's approach. They worked hard to capture that sense of camaraderie on the final product. Once they nailed it, they packed up and headed back to Nashville. Talking legendary mixer, Andy Wallace, into abandoning his NY studio, again, (he also mixed Seventeen Days in Nashville), and they began the final process of putting the pieces together.

This album features inspired musicianship as well as some intriguing personal refrains, like on one `band favorite,' "Let Me Be Myself." "That one touches on the wrongheaded notion of how we often try destructive methods to try and kill our pain," says Brad. "But I also want the songs to be open to interpretation. More universal. That one is really talking about anything you can get lost in." And the ballad "Pages": "I think it has a lot of meaning for the whole band. What we've gone through," says Matt. "Brad is pointing out what's going on with his personal situation and ours. It was a very meaningful song for us."

The group also nails their share of (in-yer'-face)-rockers like "Runaway." "It's the kind of song you put on only to get somewhere else," says Todd. "Put it on in your car and drive as fast as you can." He and several of the guys also touch on the last song of the album, "She Don't Want The World," one of the most unique 3 Doors Down offerings yet. "That song has really become one of my favorites. It doesn't have a big chorus or anything, just Brad telling a story." Adds Brad: "We even use loops on that one. We were so willing to try different things. I think one of the reasons this is such an important album for us is because every one of us was in a different place prior to any other record we've ever made. And I would say a `better' place. But it's the kind of record that never would have happened if we didn't get off that merry go round for awhile."

For Greg (former Puddle Of Mudd drummer, born in Louisiana, raised in Oklahoma), a song like the gutsy "It's The Only One You've Got," also exemplifies the band's `sixth-sense' for cooperation. A true democracy - right down the line. "Just the way that it went down. Chris was trying to learn another song and stumbled upon the riff for this song. Brad was like `hold on, I've got something for that.' Then someone else would join in. The whole thing happened quickly, and it turned out to be such an inspiring song. This has been the most collaborative experience I've ever been involved in. And the most satisfying."

"We just can't wait to put this sugar out and get back out on the road," agrees Brad. "It's definitely the one where we got our `grit back."

2008-11-18 -- 1/5:: beccaness
I think that its worst cd. Compare to their others works and its flat.

2008-11-02 -- 2/5:: Very disappointing
I've been a fan of 3 Doors Down since their first album "The Better Life". I read the reviews of this release and was expecting another great cd. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. There are a couple of good rockers on this one but overall there are way too many mellow self indulgent tunes. The band has definately matured and grown as people which is great to see. Unfortunately they have lost the fire and real fellinf that made them a great band. They are following in the path of so many bands the come out with such outstanding initial efforts but seem to lose the edge and dynamic but intangible "something different" that made them so appealing. I have read reviews commenting on the improvement in musician ship and it is obvious on songs like Train and Citizen/Soldiers. It does not follow through on the majority of the songs. I've given a brief breakdown below:

Train-good rocking tune, classic 2 Doors Down

Citizen/Soldier-great song with something to say. Best on the cd. Need more like this.

It's Not My Time-ok song-typical top 40 fair-too light & not original-no fire but radio friendly(which does not mean good)

Let Me be Myself-ok tune, redundant top 40 lyrics. Skip after first couple of listens

Pages-better song, actually has something to say, tempo picks-p but they never really cut loose. Brad sings with more feeling than other tunes.

It's The Only One You've Got-another too mellow Top 40 type song (top 40 is not a good thing) Lyrics are good but song doesn't grab you. No fire and feeling doesn't carry over. Another skip after the first few listens

Give It To Me-Good song. Feeling back into the singing. Seems to really sing form the heart. Whole band seems to be involved. Very tight song.

These Days-up & down song that goes from really good to far to light & poppy. Great singing at times but overall far too much of a Top 40 pop song. Once again lacking in real fire or feeling.

Your Arms Feel Like Home-skip over track everytime after first listen. Just another "I'm in love again" song. Every band seems to eventually come out with the same song saying the same thing. Very unorigianal.

Runaway-Very poppy sounding song. OK tune but no edge and nothing special. Filler tune.

When It's Over-Ok tune. One I don't skip but kind of teases and doesn't really deliver.

She Don't Want The World-best slower tune on the cd. More feeling than the rest of the slower songs and great musicianship. A lot of tricks musically but they blend with and make the song unlike previous songs that start with some tricks and then don't deliver.

There are a grand total of four out of tewlve songs I skip over everytime I listen to this cd. Another two or three are only ok to listen to. So basically they have six out of tewlve songs that show how good this band could be. I would give this cd a 2.5 rating if I was able since only 50% is worth hearing more thaan once or twice. Since I can't do the 2.5 I lean toward a 2 instead of 3 stars.

2008-10-12 -- 5/5:: Amazing!
The best way I can think of to describe the new album is classic 3 Doors Down with a new twist. That's one of my favorite things about this band is that you can see them grow as artists from one album to the next without detracting from they're previous work.

That being said, 3DD is by far my favorite of theirs so far. With other CDs, you have the singles and then you'll pick out a couple songs you like that were never released and then the rest are just fillers; with 3DD every one is amazing.

It starts off with a bang with 'Train', which is a bit more aggressive than the rest but sets the mood perfectly.
Next is 'Citizen/Soldier' which I actually liked but the version on the album is downsized from the original and they cut out my favorite part of the song.
'It's Not My Time' by now everyone's heard this one. Great lyrics.
'Let Me Be Myself' Very vunerable song. Loved the melody but I like it better acoustic.
'Pages' is probably my favorite song from this album.
'It's the Only One You've Got' I hate and love this song because it really hits home.
'Give it to me' another favorite, great guitar.
'These Days' to me, this one was really emotional. I could tell it meant something to them.
'Your arms feel like home' every album needs a ballad.
'Runaway' Great driving song. More upbeat.
'When It's Over' Again, another one that sounded like they meant every word.
'She Don't Want the World' Artistically, this is probably the best one. I've read a lot about people thinking it's a sad song and a depressing end to the album but if you really listen to the lyrics at the end it's not. It's just him telling a story but Brad really makes you feel with this one. It's probably one of those you either love it or hate it songs.

2008-10-01 -- 4/5:: lovely listening
A fairly mellow CD in my opinion, but it always makes me feel happy and content, and a few of the songs make me want to hit "repeat" again and again and again!

2008-09-26 -- 5/5:: Great guys; great music
Maturity and growth show through for these southern rockers. Truly nice guys with heart. What a difference from so many other rock bands!

g in for info on "what's it take to get on The Sunday Night Music Show?" THAT AND "do you have the trailer for sale?" So I'll try to answer some of those concerns here. First off---NO, It's NOT MY Trailer. And if it's yours would you please take my phone number off of it? I could have sold it a hundred times by now, and you have missed that many interested individuals, some of them may have had a pocket full of cash. This has been going on for two years now, ya fool! You're probably sitting there wondering why nobody has called! And now to the show--- Costs of production of the Sunday Night Music Show are offset by sales of DVD's as well as direct contributions from musicians and venues. We feel that inclusion of oneself in the line-up of The Sunday Night Music Show has the same potential positive results in terms of exposure and broadening of ones fan base and enhanced attendance at shows as any other advertising format. Un-fortunately the price of gas and other on-going production and equipment costs make it no longer possible to continue to offer free videotaping services. As with everything, there are expenses involved. I have found, however, that when I charge up-front for videotaping services that the seriousness level of the tapees is usually higher and more professional, and they realize it's no longer a joke or a hobby when THEY have something on the line and invested in gaining for the bands and locations more advertising and publicity, which in turn gains them more customers and fans, keeps the doors open, and fills in more dates on the calendar. The direct cost to performers for the production of one YouTube posted video and one DVD copy of the entire Sunday Night Music Show (maximum Length: 59 minutes) would be minimally $65.00. Additional DVD's are $15.00 each. Costs, contributions, expectations, and requirements from venues and locations depends on several unique factors including (but not limited to) the price of a cheeseburger and a bowl of soup. And just how occasionally DO you want the location hospitality featured on The Sunday Night Music Show to become known as one of our top-notch, premier area venues? Basicaly, aside from the above, all I need is the go ahead from all band members and the owners of the location. We will produce a (up to 59 minute) program to be shown on public access tv and from that we would post clips of (preferrably original) songs on YouTube, which you can then link to from your band or venue MySpace or other websites. This serves to give the bands as well as the locations a lot of cross-linked-exposure and something tangible to show off to the Whole Wide World World Wide Web, Double Double DoubleYou Style. On a different note! It's not possible for me to keep track of every schedule of every band and venue. There are some websites that attempt this and I thank them for their hard work and dedication to the cause of keeping us all informed. The only schedule that I am able to have any control over is my own, but that gets frustrating and conflicting sometimes too. The best way to "get on The Sunday Night Music show" would be to send me an e-mail (early, before any body else) with your request for a specific date, time and location at the address here on MySpace or to phone 563-571-5012. Looking forward to another great show, but let's capture it this time. Thanks, Brad Hesford p.s.---We will make every effort to produce a program that we and you will be proud of, however, technical problems and alchohol-fueled funny bunnies can and will destroy the best of intentions, sometimes intentionally on purpose, by action or word. Please only hold us to things in our control.

English lyrics by leszek1000 Thanks to my friend Tutek (he is not member of Youtube community) I had a chance to recover my old records. This song has been recorded few years ago (am i that old to say few years ago???) while I was assigned to army! Yes - I was a soldier!!! I used to play music with my two dear friends during military events, wedding parties etc... That was good time - what I remember is that we had no responsibilities at all, as long as we could play the music. Easy job! Song has 4 tracks - 2 guitars. vocal (I was talking instead of singing), and little yellow bird. The doors played a part, too! Song is in polish, and it is about how life and events pass away while we get older. Pictures from my weeknd trip to one of the most beautiful places in Europe (or the World) with my bro, good memories, and it passed away, so it seems to be adequate to the lyrics... Comments welcome!

rturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest state to tie the knot. Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in striking down the ban. Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as the news spread. Jeanie Rizzo, one of the plaintiffs, called Pali Cooper, her partner of 19 years, and asked, "Pali, will you marry me?" Internet Links Interactive: Gay marriage in Canada "This is a very historic day. This is just such freedom for us," Ms. Rizzo said. "This is a message that says all of us are entitled to human dignity." In the Castro, historically a center of the gay community in San Francisco, Tim Oviatt started crying while watching the news on TV. "I've been waiting for this all my life," he said. "This is a life-affirming moment." The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted the monthlong wedding march that took place when Mayor Gavin Newsom opened the doors of City Hall to same-sex marriages. Somewhere over the Rainbow - Eva Cassidy "Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody — not just in the state of California, but throughout the country — will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco. The challenge for gay rights advocates, however, is not over. A coalition of religious and social conservative groups is attempting to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine laws banning gay marriage in the state constitution. The Secretary of State is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signatures to qualify the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states. If voters pass the measure in November, it would trump the court's decision. California already offers same-sex couples who register as domestic partners the same legal rights and responsibilities as married spouses, including the right to divorce and to sue for child support. But, "Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," Chief Justice Ron George wrote for the court's majority, which also included Justices Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar and Carlos Moreno. In a dissenting opinion, Justice Marvin Baxter agreed with many arguments of the majority but said the court overstepped its authority. Changes to marriage laws should be decided by the voters, Baxter wrote. Justices Ming Chin and Carol Corrigan also dissented. The conservative Alliance Defense Fund says it plans to ask the justices for a stay of their decision until after the fall election, said Glen Lavey, senior counsel for the group. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has twice vetoed legislation that would've granted marriage rights to same-sex couples, said in a news release that he respected the court's decision and "will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling." The only other U.S. state that currently allows gay marriage is Massachusetts -- its supreme court ruled in 2003 the ban on same sex marriage was unconstitutional. Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Vermont allow same sex civil unions that include similar rights as married couples, including tax benefits, insurance coverage and hospital visiting rights but fail to provide the full federal legal protections of marriage. Maine, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, and Washington all provide same sex couples some legal rights. http://zennie2005.blogspot.com - Sunday September 30th 2007 was a day that featured an event I seriously doubt will ever be replayed in my lifetime, or yours. On a day where Senator and Presidential Candidate Hilliary Clinton was expected to be the host

of a rally in Downtown Oakland, California, local and state organizers with the Obama for America campaign held a rally of their own to open the new Northern California field office. An office located not just in Downtown Oakland, but only two blocks from where Senator Clinton was to speak. The Obama people blocked off a one-block stretch of land between 14th and Broadway and 14th and Franklin, and erected a stage for bands, then opened the doors of their new Oakland home at 436 14th Street, Suite 305. For a time, it seemed as if there were more Obama supporters than Clinton supporters, and that was because there were. As time went on, many of the estimated 5,000 people that came to hear Senator Clinton seemed to be causal attendees. Each one of which was greeted by the smiles and waving signs of Obama supporters. It was a total circus that was a peaceful, fun Democratic Party fest, where everyone was actually quite happy to see the friendly competition for attention -- from people and the media. What this says about politics today is simple: people are energized and will turn out to vote in large numbers. What's striking about today's event was how excited people were to be involved and to debate and talk about issues. In the video that comes with this, the opinions expressed are not of the minority. There was no one unhappy with the proceedings, there were no fights of any note, and you'd have to be a proctologist to find any. This is certainly the most exciting Presidential race I've seen, and it's good for the City of Oakland to have another day in the spotlight during this contest. Moreover, it showed the best of the Obama campaign in how they conducted themselves, as they outnumbered the Clinton die-hards and could have been rude and nasty, but were anything but. At the end of the video, a Clinton volunteer said she wanted to see both Obama and Clinton on the ticket. I agree. I think everyone wants to see that, judging from today's events.

quality is poor because I took it with my still digital camera's video feature (and their was very low light levels). The storyline: A nurse greets each group of "new patients" as they are checked into the asylum. They are given a quick tour of the facilities before being shown to their rooms. The first area after entering the building is the security area. The security guard could monitor all activities via video cameras. Being shown on the monitor are scenes of Dr. Tab's Surgery and, voyeuristically, the security guard often watches the nurses as well. Working in an insane asylum has it's drawbacks and unfortunately the guard on duty has cut off his own head with a butcher's knife. In the next area the tour sees many of the inmates/patients in a waiting room area, hitting each other, playing games or watching TV (which only has snowy static on it). Weird music is heard making the new patients feel uneasy. Some patients just rock back and forth, one quietly sits in a corner petting hit pet rat. The new patients follow the nurse through a door and into a long black hallway only to pass through another door to find themselves in Dr. Tab's surgery. He is currently operating on a patient. You can see the patient's belly has been cut open and his guts a coming out. Wait, is this patient still awake? The nurse tells each patient to take their meds to calm them down. Once this is done they are told to follow the hallway to their rooms on their own. Someone will be in shortly to take care of them. The medication must be very strong because the music in their heads is getting weirder and the lights start flashing on and off very quickly. The hallway is difficult to maneuver as there are many things bouncing off of the patients...[or at least this was supposed to happen. We used about 100 balloons hanging from the ceiling to simulate the body bag thing I was so creeped out by at Knott's Scary Farm. However almost everyone just ducked and walked under the balloons down the entire hallway instead of walking through them. But, at the very end as they stood back up they would end up face to face with a very scary looking old vampire dude.] The meds are really in high gear now as the next room is full of brightly glowing dots. Suddenly a man covered in dots pops right out of the wall. He must have been standing there the entire time. As the patients duck to go through the next door (are the doors getting smaller or am I getting bigger?) a patient with giant eyes and a weird stare greets them. It's a bit of a shock. A sign tells us that we are heading towards the "shrink" and on the smallest door yet it says, "Dr. Nudds, Psychiatrist," but someone has crossed out the D's and put T's instead. The patients pass through another long dark hallway and the music gets creepier. The patients see flashing lights coming from a window. When they get to the window they see a man in a white padded room bouncing off the walls and begging them to help him. But they continue on, seeing an exit sign. This is the only way to escape Dr. Tab's evil asylum!
