3 Doors Down

"We're not a band that just goes through the motions," says Chris. "We go at everything hard. What I'm most proud of about the new album is we left ourselves a way out. Everybody hit the proverbial brick wall. Everybody fell down and everybody got back up, then we all went back in the room and, what was great, was we found all these different paths to go down."

`Different' being the operative word here. Because what 3 Doors Down did after reconnecting with family, and `soul searching', was opt for a new process to the creative part of their relationship. One that emphasized the undeniable strength of the group. The fact that the sum is greater than any individual part. "It is all about getting in that room and hashing it out," recalls lead guitarist Matt Roberts. "If you look at a song like `Train,' it was one of the first songs we wrote for this album. It's kind of a building block that exemplifies the spirit of collaboration. Brad came with words and a melody and we hammered it out." "I remember I had that one in my head at home," laughs Brad. "I was singing it so much a friend threatened to kill me if I didn't get it down." Matt also remembers it as one of the `most fun songs to put together. "The best moments of this band have always been about keeping it a fun ride. You need that sense of accomplishment, but you also need to keep the process comfortable.". Adds Chris: "I think it's also fair to say we are one of the only `southern' bands who has the balls to put a song like `Train' out there these days."

The band rented an old farmhouse South of Franklin, Tennessee, where they would not only write songs, but live together, for a while. Says Brad: "The farmhouse was great because it became a wholehearted experience where we just focused on the writing. It was such a close-knit atmosphere, reconnecting us after we had been doing our own thing for a while. It set a cool mood for the entire record, writing out in the country around this fireplace in the basement. Just locking ourselves away and doing it."

Matt adds that the unique setting soon sparked 26 or 27 song ideas. "But winter turned colder than expected in Tennessee. So we decided to head to a warmer climate." The band found a ten bedroom mansion in a remote section of Orlando, Florida. They brought in Seventeen Days producer, Johnny K. and turned the house into a recording studio.

The originality of the two locations rejuvenated the band's approach. They worked hard to capture that sense of camaraderie on the final product. Once they nailed it, they packed up and headed back to Nashville. Talking legendary mixer, Andy Wallace, into abandoning his NY studio, again, (he also mixed Seventeen Days in Nashville), and they began the final process of putting the pieces together.

This album features inspired musicianship as well as some intriguing personal refrains, like on one `band favorite,' "Let Me Be Myself." "That one touches on the wrongheaded notion of how we often try destructive methods to try and kill our pain," says Brad. "But I also want the songs to be open to interpretation. More universal. That one is really talking about anything you can get lost in." And the ballad "Pages": "I think it has a lot of meaning for the whole band. What we've gone through," says Matt. "Brad is pointing out what's going on with his personal situation and ours. It was a very meaningful song for us."

The group also nails their share of (in-yer'-face)-rockers like "Runaway." "It's the kind of song you put on only to get somewhere else," says Todd. "Put it on in your car and drive as fast as you can." He and several of the guys also touch on the last song of the album, "She Don't Want The World," one of the most unique 3 Doors Down offerings yet. "That song has really become one of my favorites. It doesn't have a big chorus or anything, just Brad telling a story." Adds Brad: "We even use loops on that one. We were so willing to try different things. I think one of the reasons this is such an important album for us is because every one of us was in a different place prior to any other record we've ever made. And I would say a `better' place. But it's the kind of record that never would have happened if we didn't get off that merry go round for awhile."

For Greg (former Puddle Of Mudd drummer, born in Louisiana, raised in Oklahoma), a song like the gutsy "It's The Only One You've Got," also exemplifies the band's `sixth-sense' for cooperation. A true democracy - right down the line. "Just the way that it went down. Chris was trying to learn another song and stumbled upon the riff for this song. Brad was like `hold on, I've got something for that.' Then someone else would join in. The whole thing happened quickly, and it turned out to be such an inspiring song. This has been the most collaborative experience I've ever been involved in. And the most satisfying."

"We just can't wait to put this sugar out and get back out on the road," agrees Brad. "It's definitely the one where we got our `grit back."

I think that its worst cd. Compare to their others works and its flat.

2008-11-02 -- 2/5:: Very disappointing
I've been a fan of 3 Doors Down since their first album "The Better Life". I read the reviews of this release and was expecting another great cd. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. There are a couple of good rockers on this one but overall there are way too many mellow self indulgent tunes. The band has definately matured and grown as people which is great to see. Unfortunately they have lost the fire and real fellinf that made them a great band. They are following in the path of so many bands the come out with such outstanding initial efforts but seem to lose the edge and dynamic but intangible "something different" that made them so appealing. I have read reviews commenting on the improvement in musician ship and it is obvious on songs like Train and Citizen/Soldiers. It does not follow through on the majority of the songs. I've given a brief breakdown below:

Train-good rocking tune, classic 2 Doors Down

Citizen/Soldier-great song with something to say. Best on the cd. Need more like this.

It's Not My Time-ok song-typical top 40 fair-too light & not original-no fire but radio friendly(which does not mean good)

Let Me be Myself-ok tune, redundant top 40 lyrics. Skip after first couple of listens

Pages-better song, actually has something to say, tempo picks-p but they never really cut loose. Brad sings with more feeling than other tunes.

It's The Only One You've Got-another too mellow Top 40 type song (top 40 is not a good thing) Lyrics are good but song doesn't grab you. No fire and feeling doesn't carry over. Another skip after the first few listens

Give It To Me-Good song. Feeling back into the singing. Seems to really sing form the heart. Whole band seems to be involved. Very tight song.

These Days-up & down song that goes from really good to far to light & poppy. Great singing at times but overall far too much of a Top 40 pop song. Once again lacking in real fire or feeling.

Your Arms Feel Like Home-skip over track everytime after first listen. Just another "I'm in love again" song. Every band seems to eventually come out with the same song saying the same thing. Very unorigianal.

Runaway-Very poppy sounding song. OK tune but no edge and nothing special. Filler tune.

When It's Over-Ok tune. One I don't skip but kind of teases and doesn't really deliver.

She Don't Want The World-best slower tune on the cd. More feeling than the rest of the slower songs and great musicianship. A lot of tricks musically but they blend with and make the song unlike previous songs that start with some tricks and then don't deliver.

There are a grand total of four out of tewlve songs I skip over everytime I listen to this cd. Another two or three are only ok to listen to. So basically they have six out of tewlve songs that show how good this band could be. I would give this cd a 2.5 rating if I was able since only 50% is worth hearing more thaan once or twice. Since I can't do the 2.5 I lean toward a 2 instead of 3 stars.

2008-10-12 -- 5/5:: Amazing!
The best way I can think of to describe the new album is classic 3 Doors Down with a new twist. That's one of my favorite things about this band is that you can see them grow as artists from one album to the next without detracting from they're previous work.

That being said, 3DD is by far my favorite of theirs so far. With other CDs, you have the singles and then you'll pick out a couple songs you like that were never released and then the rest are just fillers; with 3DD every one is amazing.

It starts off with a bang with 'Train', which is a bit more aggressive than the rest but sets the mood perfectly.
Next is 'Citizen/Soldier' which I actually liked but the version on the album is downsized from the original and they cut out my favorite part of the song.
'It's Not My Time' by now everyone's heard this one. Great lyrics.
'Let Me Be Myself' Very vunerable song. Loved the melody but I like it better acoustic.
'Pages' is probably my favorite song from this album.
'It's the Only One You've Got' I hate and love this song because it really hits home.
'Give it to me' another favorite, great guitar.
'These Days' to me, this one was really emotional. I could tell it meant something to them.
'Your arms feel like home' every album needs a ballad.
'Runaway' Great driving song. More upbeat.
'When It's Over' Again, another one that sounded like they meant every word.
'She Don't Want the World' Artistically, this is probably the best one. I've read a lot about people thinking it's a sad song and a depressing end to the album but if you really listen to the lyrics at the end it's not. It's just him telling a story but Brad really makes you feel with this one. It's probably one of those you either love it or hate it songs.

2008-10-01 -- 4/5:: lovely listening
A fairly mellow CD in my opinion, but it always makes me feel happy and content, and a few of the songs make me want to hit "repeat" again and again and again!

2008-09-26 -- 5/5:: Great guys; great music
Maturity and growth show through for these southern rockers. Truly nice guys with heart. What a difference from so many other rock bands!

Nick slowly lowered the smoking gun to his side and then dropped it on the ground as he stared at Kevin screaming in the corner. "HOLY #@!& NICK!! YOU ACTUALLY SHOT HIM!" Joe screamed as he started to get up, but remembered Catelyn was in his lap clinging to life. He needed to help Kevin, but he couldn't leave Catelyn. "JOE GET CATELYN TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!" someone screamed and Joe looked up to see it was Kevin. "GET HER TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!" he screamed again through gritted teeth as he tore the bottom of his shirt with his good arm and tied it tightly around the wound. Joe stared at him for a long time until he heard Catelyn gasp again. "GET HER TO THE #@!&ING HOSPITAL JOE!" Kevin screamed again as Joe got to his feet and gently picked up Catelyn in his arms. She was so light and he could feel her chest moving up and down against his as her breathing became shallower. "Kevin you need to go to!" Joe shouted across the room. "I'll take him." someone said in a voice so quiet it was almost a whisper. Joe looked up to see Nick on his feet, walking up to Kevin as if nothing had happened. Nick walked up next to Kevin and helped him up. "You didn't think I would actually kill you did you?" Nick said. "No I knew you wouldn't have, but you should have!" Kevin responded. "I proved my point, that's all I needed to do. I think a bullet in your arm was a good enough way to have you suffer without actually killing you bro." Nick responded with a half smile. "GUYS CAN WE GO TO THE DAMN HOSPITAL ALREADY BEFORE I LOSE HER FOREVER?"Joe shouted and they looked up at him. They hadn't realized how bad he looked. His face and chest were covered in blood. His eyes were wet and his hair was all over the place. His legs looked like they were ready to collapse again, but he held his position because Catelyn was laying motionless in his arms. "let's go!" Nick said as he helped Kevin out the door and they got in the car. "Aw #@!&!! I can't drive like this!" Kevin pointed to his arm. "move over ya retard! I'll drive!" Nick said as he pushed Kevin out of the way. "If we crash and I die, I'll haunt you forever." Joe said from the back seat as he gently moved Catelyn's hair out of her face. They arrived at the hospital and Joe jumped out of the car with Catelyn still in his arms. He burst through the doors screaming,"SOMEONE HELP HER! NOW!" 3 nurses came up and took her from his arms and layed her on a cot and took her away. Joe followed but they kept him back. Before they went out of view, he heard the faint sound of the heard monitor they strapped to her as it beeped slower and slower... "NO! Let me in!" He ran to the doors and tried to get in, but he was tackled by Nick as he and Kevin came running into the emergency room. "Joe, let her go! She'll be fine!" Nick said as Joe struggled to get up. Kevin was being taken into the surgical center to get the bullet removed, as was Catelyn. A few hours passed, and kevin finally came out of the ICU. He took one look at Joe and gasped. He looked worse then he had 4 hours ago. His face was pale, his hair sticking up in every direction, his eyes red as blood, his clothes ripped, and the white shirt he had been given was stained with tears. He'd never seen his brother like this before, and it scared him. Kevin saw Nick come up to him and pull him aside. "We need to take Joe somewhere else, away from here." Nick said as Kevin nodded as they walked up to Joe. "Hey man, listen let's go home for a while, change, take a shower, eat something. Then when the hospital calls we can come back, ok?" Nick said. Joe looked up a him. Kevin wasn't kidding when he said Joe looked awful. He loked like a monster truck rolled over him. "I'm not leaving until Catelyn comes out." he said flatly, his voice shaking as he said her name. "dude, c'mon who knows how long that will be? We've been here since 10:30, and it's 1 am dude." Kevin stared, but Joe interrupted, "I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL I HAVE CATELYN IN MY ARMS AND I KNOW SHE'S OK AND SHE'S SAFE!" he screamed, causing Nick to jump back into Kevin. Nick and Kevin exchanged glances and they both took seats on eather side of him. "If you aren't leaving, neither are we." Nick said. A few more hours pass. Kevin was asleep. Lana had come around 1:30 and she had gottem treated for her injuries. She was now sleeping on Nick's chest, his arms around her. Joe was wide awake, sitting in the chair he hadn't moved from once. Finally, a nurse came out. "anyone here for Catelyn Russo?" she asked, and Joe shot up. He moved the couch and they all woke up. "How is she?" Joe asked desperately? The nurse replied, "Well..."

d it absolutely fascinating. It just seems to get better each time I do the regression. If it doesn't work for you the first time then please try again. Some of my friends said that they were a bit apprehensive the first time so it didn't work but has worked every time after that. NOTE: A few tips that may help you. Don't do the regression when your tired, you will just fall asleep. Don't drink coke or caffine just before the regression, your be too awake. Use head phones if available. Lie down with your arms by your side, listen to the voice and concentrate only on his voice. You may just see a glimps of your past life at first but that will be just the start for your next regression. Go with the flow and let yourself go. Your subconscious mind will open the doors for you to enter but your conscious mind will stop you entering. Your conscious mind deals with fact and what is happening now. So you have to relax your conscious mind so you can slip past him. Learnt by practice. Remember your conscious mind is looking after your interest (what's best for you to see) without him your on your own. Some visions may upset you. Best wishes Linda

the first time then please try again. Some of my friends said that they were a bit apprehensive the first time so it didn't work but has worked every time after that. NOTE: Hi there, a few tips that may help you.

Part 1 of 2 - Every October each department in my company dresses up their area for Halloween and competes against the other departments. In 2003 my department created an insane asylum among the cubicles. We won "Best of Show" for that year. The video

quality is poor because I took it with my still digital camera's video feature (and their was very low light levels). The storyline: A nurse greets each group of "new patients" as they are checked into the asylum. They are given a quick tour of the facilities before being shown to their rooms. The first area after entering the building is the security area. The security guard could monitor all activities via video cameras. Being shown on the monitor are scenes of Dr. Tab's Surgery and, voyeuristically, the security guard often watches the nurses as well. Working in an insane asylum has it's drawbacks and unfortunately the guard on duty has cut off his own head with a butcher's knife. In the next area the tour sees many of the inmates/patients in a waiting room area, hitting each other, playing games or watching TV (which only has snowy static on it). Weird music is heard making the new patients feel uneasy. Some patients just rock back and forth, one quietly sits in a corner petting hit pet rat. The new patients follow the nurse through a door and into a long black hallway only to pass through another door to find themselves in Dr. Tab's surgery. He is currently operating on a patient. You can see the patient's belly has been cut open and his guts a coming out. Wait, is this patient still awake? The nurse tells each patient to take their meds to calm them down. Once this is done they are told to follow the hallway to their rooms on their own. Someone will be in shortly to take care of them. The medication must be very strong because the music in their heads is getting weirder and the lights start flashing on and off very quickly. The hallway is difficult to maneuver as there are many things bouncing off of the patients...[or at least this was supposed to happen. We used about 100 balloons hanging from the ceiling to simulate the body bag thing I was so creeped out by at Knott's Scary Farm. However almost everyone just ducked and walked under the balloons down the entire hallway instead of walking through them. But, at the very end as they stood back up they would end up face to face with a very scary looking old vampire dude.] The meds are really in high gear now as the next room is full of brightly glowing dots. Suddenly a man covered in dots pops right out of the wall. He must have been standing there the entire time. As the patients duck to go through the next door (are the doors getting smaller or am I getting bigger?) a patient with giant eyes and a weird stare greets them. It's a bit of a shock. A sign tells us that we are heading towards the "shrink" and on the smallest door yet it says, "Dr. Nudds, Psychiatrist," but someone has crossed out the D's and put T's instead. The patients pass through another long dark hallway and the music gets creepier. The patients see flashing lights coming from a window. When they get to the window they see a man in a white padded room bouncing off the walls and begging them to help him. But they continue on, seeing an exit sign. This is the only way to escape Dr. Tab's evil asylum!

Its the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference. Its the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington it began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give five dollars and ten dollars and twenty dollars to this cause. It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generations apathy; who left their homes and their families for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep; from the not-so-young people who braved the bitter cold and scorching heat to knock on the doors of perfect strangers; from the millions of Americans who volunteered, and organized, and proved that more than two centuries later, a government of the people, by the people and for the people has not perished from this Earth. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how theyll make the mortgage, or pay their doctors bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances to repair. This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we cant, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes We Can. ut it in his sweatshirt pocket. He gets out of bed and moves around a little. He pulls his cell phone out and see's that it's only 5:45 a.m. He goes to the vending machines to get himself a snack when he goes back to the room Tara is sitting up in her bed. Nick: Good morning beautiful. *smiles* Tara: *blushing and smiling* Morning. What time is it? Nick: Like 6. Tara: Wow. Why are you up so early? Nick: I'm not sure. I just sort of woke up. Tara: Oh. I really want to get out of this place. Nick: Let me go find your doctor. You should be able to leave today. Tara: That's alright. I'll wait for him to come here. I need to talk to you about something. Nick: *sits on the bed next to her and grabs her hand* What is it? Tara: Are you and Nichole...over? Nick: Yeah. I like you now Tara. Tara: Ok. Just checking. *doctor walks in* Doctor: Hey Tara. How are you feeling? Tara: Great! Do you think I can leave today? Doctor: I think that would be alright. If you have any questions, feel free to come talk to me. Tara: Thank you so much. I should be alright. Nick seems to know what he's talking about. *smiles* Doctor: Alright. *walks out of the room* Nick: Should we go ask your parents if you can come on tour with the Jonas Brothers!? Hahaha. Tara: *laughing* Yes we shall. They walk back to Tara's house because it's so early and they figure no one's awake. When they get there all the doors are locked. Nick calls Kevin's cell phone and was surprised when he answered. Kevin: Hello? Nick: Hey Kev. Can you opne the front door? Kevin: Yeah sure. I'm in the living room anyway. I thought I heard someone trying to open the door. Nick: Why are you up so early? Kevin: There's something on my mind. I'm trying to find out the perfect time to make it happen and how. Nick: Do you want to talk about it? Kevin: Yeah. But not right now. *opens the door* Nick: Thanks Kevin. Tara you can go in. I need to talk to Kevin for a second. Tara: Ok. I'm going to call Walter and end things. Nick: *smiling* Good idea. *after Tara goes inside* What's on your mind bro? Kevin: I really love Kirsten and everything- Nick: You're not breaking up with him are you? Cause if yo- Kevin: Nick! I'm not going to break up with her. I was going to say...I want to ask her to marry me. Nick: OH MY GOD! Dude that's awesome! Kevin: I thought so too. I need to find the perfect moment to do it. Nick: Sorry. I can't help you out there. Kevin: I know. Thanks for listening to me though. I feel a little more confident now that I told someone. Nick: No problem. (Inside with Tara) Tara: *on the phone* Walter...Would you listen to me!?...No...Because I can't...Will you come over here for a little while?...Fine...I'm just going to have to say it over the phone then...Listen to me! I want to break up...Walter?...I don't think we have that spark anymore. We're better off being friends...Fine then. I don't want to be your friend either! *hangs up* Ugh!!! Nick: Everything all right? Tara: He can be such a jerk sometimes. Nick: Sure sounds like it. Oh well. You don't need someone like him in your life. Tara: I guess you're right. We used to be such close friends. It's going to be hard getting used to him hating me. Nick: Anyone who hates you is an idiot. *hugs her* You're the best thing since the quarter pounder at McDonalds. Tara: *pulling away from their hug* Oh thanks. Comparing me to meat. Just what I like. Nick: Sorry. My point is...You're amazing. Don't let one person change who you are. Tara: Thanks Nick. You're too sweet. *kisses him on the cheek* Let's get some breakfast. I'm starving! Part 2 up in a second!
