Your Time Is Gonna Come" is a song by English rock band Led Zeppelin, released on their 1969 debut album Led Z ...More eppelin.
Guitarist Jimmy Page played an out-of-tune Fender 10-string steel guitar on this track. Bassist John Paul Jones played an organ, using a pedal to create the bass.
The lyrics concern an unfaithful girl who will pay the price for her deceitful ways. The lines "One of these days and it won't be long / You'll look for me but baby I'll be gone" quote the Ray Charles song "I Believe to My Soul," demonstrating Robert Plant's affinity for R&B. The song's chord progression is similar to that of Traffic's popular 1967 song "Dear Mr. Fantasy".
The only known performance of this song at Led Zeppelin concerts is a short snippet during a show at Tokyo on September 24, 1971 during the "Whole Lotta Love" medley, of which a bootleg recording exists. The name of the bootleg is Light And Shade.
The first known cover version of this song (and indeed of any Led Zeppelin song) was recorded by Sandie Shaw on her 1969 album Reviewing the Situation. This album saw Shaw covering songs by alternative artists of the 1960s (those she believed were responsible for the best music of the decade) and was a far cry from most of her previous pop songs.
Jimmy Page performed "Your Time Is Gonna Come" on his tour with The Black Crowes in 1999. A version of the song performed by Page and The Black Crowes can be found on the album Live at the Greek.
Led Zeppelin parody cover band Dread Zeppelin recorded a version of this song on their album Un-Led-Ed.
Lyrics:
Lyin', cheatin', hurtin, that's all you seem to do.
Messin' around with every guy in town,
Puttin' me down for thinkin' of someone new.
Always the same, playin' your game,
Drive me insane, trouble is gonna come to you,
One of these days and it won't be long,
You'll look for me but baby, I'll be gone.
This is all I gotta say to you woman:
*Your Time Is Gonna Come X4
Made up my mind to break you this time,
Won't be so fine, it's my turn to cry.
Do want you want, I won't take the brunt.
It's fadin' away, can't feel you anymore.
Don't care what you say 'cause I'm goin' away to stay,
Gonna make you pay for that great big hole in my heart.
People talkin' all around,
Watch out woman, no longer
Is the joke gonna be on my heart.
You been bad to me woman,
But it's coming back home to you.
* Chorus |
