In smalltown USA in 1961 we could tell from Roy's music that was the coolest man alive. We all wanted to be the "Candy Man." In those days we had radio and could only imagine what most of the stars looked like. I don't know about other areas but in the great plaines we never saw fan magazines. We never imagined that Roy's looks didn't match his voice. I guess all of his beauty went straight to his voice box. That boy could sing!!! |

~ Roy Orbison - Far Far Away
Views: 389 | | | | | A fairly obscure one - Roy Orbison sings "Far Far Away", from the album 'Roy Orbison Sings Don Gibson'. Released in 1967, the song was recorded earlier, possibly as early as 1960. It's not a 'Blue Angel' or 'Evergreen', but it's still good - and it's got ...More a nice piano break. |

The girl in the slide show is my lifelong dream girl. I met her in 5th grade and decided a guy could have a girl as a friend. She could hit a baseball farther than any of the guys except one whose nickname was Bull. Then in 7th grade I took her to our junior high homecoming dance. I think I was too shy to talk to her but I was so happy and proud to be with her. Later that year I moved away with my family. We moved back to town for my junior and senior years in high school but I was too slow and she found another boyfriend who she eventually married.
It's not like I've been in love with her all these years. I had other girlfriends and a wife that I loved. It's just that she has always been the model in my mind for what a woman should be. |
