~ Pearl Jam - Even Flow
Views: 3717 | | | | | INFO ABOUT EVEN FLOW:
Even Flow" is a song by the American rock band Pearl Jam, released in 1992 as the second single from the band's debut album, Ten (1991). The song peaked at number three on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Even Flow" ...More pairs a funky riff by guitarist Stone Gossard with stark lyrics by frontman Eddie Vedder about homelessness. The vocal line that appears in the main verse begins with a very prominent tritone interval.
Guitarist Mike McCready on the song:
That's me pretending to be Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a feeble attempt at that. Stone (Gossard, Pearl Jam guitarist) wrote the riff and song; I think it's a D tuning. I just followed him in a regular pattern. I tried to steal everything I know from Stevie Ray Vaughan and put it into that song. A blatant rip-off. A tribute rip-off, if you will!
The song's lyrics describe the experience of being a homeless man. The subject sleeps "on a pillow made of concrete" and panhandles passersby for spare change. In addition to being illiterate, he may also be mentally ill, as he "looks insane" when he smiles and struggles to keep coherent thoughts ("Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies/Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away").
At Pearl Jam's March 28, 1994 concert in Miami, Florida at the Bayfront Amphitheater, Vedder introduced the song by saying, "I thought I'd throw in a bit of street education while you still have an open mind...Right across the street there's a little homeless community that lives under the bridge. You should just know that those people ain't all crazy and sometimes it's not their fault. This song is called 'Even Flow'."
The song peaked at number three on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number 21 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Outside of the United States, the single was released in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. In Canada, the song reached the top 80 on the Canadian Singles Chart. "Even Flow" peaked at number 27 in the UK and number 22 on the Australian Singles Chart.
Chris True of Allmusic called "Even Flow" "the somewhat less ballady more swaggering follow up to the breakout single 'Alive'." True said that the song "doesnt even really have an intro — it just starts and keeps going — and the band seems more in the groove than on the overly earnest 'Alive'." True said that the song "confirmed that Pearl Jam were more than just one hit grunge rock wonders." The song was placed at #77 on a list of "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time" by Rolling Stone.
The original music video for "Even Flow" was ultimately replaced by a performance clip directed by Josh Taft, who had previously directed the "Alive" music video for the band, and who would later direct the music video for "Oceans". The video consists of performance footage of the band filmed during a January 17, 1992 show at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, Washington. Taft was filming that night not in his capacity as a director, but as a friend of Gossard's. (At one point during the show, Vedder had even stopped the proceedings, clearly of the opinion that Taft's presence was intrusive. "This is not a TV studio, Josh" he'd yelled indignantly, in an interlude that Taft left in his final cut but that MTV clipped out of most versions it aired. "Turn those lights out, it's a #@!&ing rock concert!") The video shows Vedder climbing the theatre, and then jumping down between fans at the concert.
The footage used in the video is actually spliced from different songs: for instance Gossard and McCready each play two different guitars, Vedder wears a hat at some point and the theatre climb actually occurred during "Porch". Taft's presence at the Moore Theatre show, and the fact that he had filmed sufficient footage to compile into a music video, proved to be a break for the band. Otherwise with Epic ready to provide MTV with an "Even Flow" clip and Schenck's version already completed, Pearl Jam would have had little choice but to go with it, and the band members unanimously despised Schenck's version when they saw the final edit. The alternate studio recording of "Even Flow", which was recorded in 1992 with Abbruzzese, was used for the video as the band felt it synched up well with the live footage. The video was released in April 1992. |

~ 50 Songs In 1 (Music Mash)
Views: 1853 | | | | | Small collection of the music I like. Read below for the words.
It's down to this.
We're face to face, simply a look.
Two can play this game.
I wish we've never met,
so #@!&ing blow those words out the back of your head!
... She said as you walke ...More d away...
I'll follow you, you'll follow me.
I saw you run away!
Run away!
It brings me down.
Leaving me breathless; the reason I know:
I can't seem to make them stay.
There is too much on my mind.
Thinkin to myself:
If anything could ever be this good again.
I feel for you.
Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me.
Love hurts, but sometimes it's a good hurt.
It takes my pain away.
Something takes a part of me,
there's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface.
Don't break, don't break, my heart.
How sweet are you?
Would you take a trip with me, on the back of a star?
I could take what's apart and put it back together.
The choice is yours; don't be late.
Good, good, now we're making some progress.
Take me.
We got the means to make amends.
I'll meet you at the other side.
You're the only thing I've got.
Crawl with me into tomorrow.
Be my girl, I'll be your man.
I found a shoulder to lean on;
there's nothing left for me to lose.
I can't make it alone.
I don't know what to do.
Looking for something, to make you want me.
I feel, what's good for you is good for me.
And I feel it.
I dare you to move.
And if you go, I want to go with you.
You are everything I want;
I'll never let you go.
Trust me, and take my hand.
I'll run away with you.
Get up, get up, let the good times roll.
Get up, get up, take my heart and my soul. |

I've never slept in Satan's bed
Although I must admit...still visits my place
Uninvited, as you know, he don't wait
Funny how he always seems to fit in
Funny how I always want to give in
Sundays, Friday ...More s, Tuesdays, Thursday, the same
Sometimes the special guest, he don't like to leave
Already...in love...
Already...in love...
Already...in love...

~ Pearl Jam - Come Back (Subtitulado Español)
If I keep holding out,... will the light shine through?
Under this broken roof,... it's only rain that I feel
I've been wishing out the days,... come back
I have been planning out,... all that I'd say to you
Since you slipped away,... ...More know that I still remain true
I've been wishing out the days,...
Please say, that if you hadn't of gone now
I wouldn't have lost you another way
From wherever you are,... come back
And these days, they linger on
And in the night, as I'm waiting on
The real possibility I may meet you in my dream
I go to sleep
If I don't fall apart,.... will the memories stay clear?
So you had to go,..... and I had to remain here
But the strangest thing to date
So far away
And yet you feel so close
And I'm not gonna question it any other way
There must be an open door
For you to
Come back
And the days, they linger on
And every night, what I'm waiting for
Is the real possibility I may meet you in my dream
And sometimes you're there
And you're talking back to me
Come the morning I could swear you're next to me
And it's okay.
It's okay.
It's okay.
I'll be here
Come back
Come back
I'll be here
Come back
Come back
I'll be here
Come back
Come back |

Views: 2325 | | | | | Kanye's Most Extreme Moments
Posted Sat Sep 13, 2008 9:26am PDT by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training
In these days of the popularity of tabloid journalism it's quite easy for a celebrity like Kanye West to have his art overshadowed by the an ...More tics of his personal life. Since the release of his 2004 debut, The College Dropout, the Chicago-bred rapper has been fortunate to have enough good music in the marketplace to remain relevant based on his talent.
But to some, he is best known for his incidences, like Thursday's widely covered run-in with the paparazzi while at the Los Angeles International Airport en route to Hawaii or one of his numerous outbursts at award shows.
Below are 10 of Kanye's Most Extreme Moments. The list includes moments of his extreme brilliance, uncontrollable utterances (good and bad) and even a horrible tragedy that is clearly the wackest thing that could happen to anyone. The latter is proof that he isn't always the perpetrator but sometimes a victim himself.
10) Jesus Literally Walks With Kanye
Kanye made three videos for his heralded track "Jesus Walks." Version 3 is the most shocking. The video offers a literal interpretation of the song. It's hilarious watching Kanye walking down the street accompanied by Jesus, who is wearing a toga, sandals and the crown of thorns. I don't think anyone was expecting this or any other rapper would produce something this compelling.
9) Kanye Finally Wins
After making a spectacle of himself at the American Music Awards when he lost the Best New Artist honor to country singer Gretchen Wilson, many wondered how Kanye would respond at the 2005 Grammys. Fortunately, his debut The College Dropout received two trophies that night, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. When Kanye took the stage to receive the Best Rap Album honor he said, "A lot of people were wondering what I was going to do if I didn't win anything ... I guess we'll never know." And we didn't want to know.
8) Bonnaroo Boos Kanye
The thousands of fans who turned out for Kanye's early morning performance on June 15 at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee were livid that the show started 2 hours late. The crowd booed and threw bottles, and even dissed Kanye the following days during sets for Zach Rogue and Robert Randolph. Kanye posted a blog on his website, saying that the delay wasn't his fault. He blamed the festival for not being able to accommodate his set up requirements and a Pearl Jam show that exceeded its time by an hour.
7) Kanye Gets Justice
Obviously determined to upstage any of his previous award show tantrums, Kanye West bum rushed the stage at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards in Copenhagen when he did not receive the Best Video award for his video "Touch The Sky." Kanye rudely interrupted Justice vs. Simian's acceptance speech for their video "We Are Your Friends." In Kanye's clip, he took on an Evil Knievel like persona, kissed Pamela Anderson and had a verbal showdown with Nia Long. Even though Kanye admitted that he had never seen the Justice vs. Simian video, he didn't need to. Actually, it is pretty bad.

SEOUL, Sept 15 (Reuters) - South Korea's financial institutions had invested over $700 million in Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc (LEH.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the country's Yonhap news agency quoted a top financial regulatory agency as saying on Monday.
Yonhap reported that an unnamed official at South Korea's Financial Services Commission said local brokerages had invested mostly in equity-linked securities issued by Lehman.
An official at the regulator declined to comment on the report and told Reuters by telephone that the agency planned to announce data on domestic financial firms' investments in Lehman and measures on them at around 0800 GMT. The official asked not to be identified.
) Kanye Gets Beat By A Redneck Woman
Poor Gretchen Wilson's big American Music Award win for Best New Artist is overshadowed by Kanye's protest for losing. Not only did Kanye storm out of the event, he lashed out backstage. "I feel I was definitely robbed," Kanye told the Associated Press. "I was the best new artist this year." He later apologized to Gretchen.
5) Kanye Curses The VMAs
Britney Spear's sloppy opening performance for MTV's 2007 VMA awards may be the most memorable event from the night, but Kanye's backstage tirade is just as unforgettable. Not only did Kanye not win any of the five VMA awards for which he was nominated, he was also relegated to performing in a hotel suite, as opposed to the main stage. When he saw Justin Timberlake take the main stage, Kanye went ballistic, cursing the cable network and vowing to never return. Fortunately the ordeal was caught on tape.

~ Adam Fallon 2 Song Wicked MIX, on SteveLevyShow

Learn more about Adam Fallon at http://www.adamfallon.com/
Biography: Adam Fallon
It's dusk, it's cool, and the stadium lights are on. About 50,000 concert-goers are singing a song back to Adam Fallon ...More , the headline act.
This is Fallon's ultimate musical goal. Based on the rapid growth of his audience throughout North America and his new EP, Slightly Used, hitting the market in 2006, he could achieve it very soon.
From his base in Chicago, Fallon is building a following throughout the Midwest, Ontario and across the continent. Audiences are opening up to his style: his own unique take on the tradition of singer/songwriter, but with an intangible quality that makes listener feel that, deep down, he knows what they are feeling. Fallon moves effortlessly from ballads to upbeat pop to full-out rock.
The 26-year-old Canadian singer and songwriter has been, at various times, a performer, producer, promoter, and roadie. Fallon is something of a local legend around Belleville, Ontario, where he pulled up to an A%26W --former band Pickseed aboard a flatbed truck-and drew 300 people for an impromptu concert.
It may be his knack for producing and promoting that keeps him so connected to what his fans expect. "The typical person at my show tends to be laid back, casual and looking for good live entertainment," Fallon says. "They just want to close their eyes, listen to the story, and be carried away."
He's been there himself: Fallon learned at an early age that music could take him away from problems at home and school. He started with clarinet at age 12; and really developed a deep appreciation for music at age 14, when he got his first drum set. "I'd go into the garage four hours a night," he says, "and just put on a CD and headphones and play along." He credits those early sessions with Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and Foo Fighters with honing his skills and helping him feel good about himself. (He also includes Led Zepplin, The Beatles, The Who, the Matthew Good Band, Our Lady Peace and the Tragically Hip among his influences.)
As he finished high school and pursued a degree in radio broadcasting at Loyalist College, his songwriting style crystallized. Fallon considers himself a free-association writer. "The majority of my songs are written off cuff," he says. "I get an idea in my head and then put the pen to the paper and just start writing, because if I think about what I want to say, I overthink and censor myself."
Many of his songs spring from experiences with his wife, Kim, who has a profound influence on his art-she's his Muse, you could say. Fallon credits her with keeping his creativity on track. "She's not afraid to tell me if something stinks or needs to be better or if it's perfect," he says. "I can sometimes come up with an idea that I've played before; she has a great memory and will step in very quickly to let me know that I'm re-using stuff that I've already done."
Despite his extensive musical experience, Fallon understands the power of collaboration. His five-year co-writing relationship with guitarist Kyle Defreitas, whom he considers a "guitar genius," is a good example "After developing the original idea for a song-the lyrics and basic musical structure-Kyle and I work on the progression and harmonies and then build the song from there," says Fallon. "Two songs on the new EP, "Someday" and "Ignored," are examples of what we can do together."
When the new EP, Slightly Used, is released on NYOC Records this year, it will be Fallon's fourth recording. He recorded a 3-song solo EP with Defreitas in March 2002 titled The Power of the Voice of One Vol. 1; followed that up with a full-length album with his former band, Pickseed; then re-teamed with Defreitas for The Power of the Voice of One Vol. 2. Scott Juba of the-trades.com said Vol. 2 "demonstrates his tremendous versatility as an artist and proves why he is beginning to earn radio airplay in select US and Canadian markets."
Back to the stadium: the song is over, the crowd is roaring, and Adam Fallon lets the sound wash over him. Big dream? Sure. But this artist, who backs up the dream with talent, enthusiasm and a relentless drive to succeed, will soon be stepping onto a larger stage. |

~ Where Have You Been All My Life (Till We Kissed)
Views: 1789 | | | | | The picture used here is from the album cover of "Lonely Just Like Me." In a just world everyone would have heard about Arthur Alexander (1940-1993). He had three of his songs covered by the Beatles: "Anna (Go to Him)" -also covered by Humble Pie, "A Shot ...More of Rhythm & Blues", and "Soldier of Love"- also done by Marshall Crenshaw and Pearl Jam. The Rolling Stones covered his song "You Better Move On", Dusty Springfield his "Every Day I Have to Cry", and Ry Cooder his "Go Home Girl". Arthur Alexander released a version of Dennis Linde's "Burning Love" in 1971, before Elvis released his hit version- in 1972. Alexander also released this song, "Where Have You Been All My Life" in 1961 written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil- sometimes erringly credited to Gunter or Gunther who wrote a different song by the same name. This song, originally done by Arthur Alexander, has been redone by a number of artists- sometimes as "Where Have You Been" or "Till We Kissed"- including The Searchers and Chad Allen & the Expressions (that later evolved into the Guess Who). This version is by the Mistissini Basement Rats. Also check out our other Arthur Alexander cover, "In the Middle of it All". |

"Mixing the swishing, flanged surreal sounds of the original, P.M. Dawn added a layered hip-hop ...More sound and a strong backbeat ...
Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix - is a 1993 album recorded by various artists in tribute to Jimi Hendrix from many genres of popular music including his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, legendary blues man Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P. M. Dawn, among others. According to the liner notes, the "artists were encouraged to not only record one of their own personal favorites but to also place their stamp on Jimi's songs."
"Several artists recorded radically different interpretations, particularly, P. M. Dawn, The Cure, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. Some artists, on the other hand, recorded versions that were rather similar to the originals."
-------------------------------
"P.M. Dawn is a hip hop/R&B musical group, formed by brothers Attrell Cordes (a.k.a. Prince Be, sometimes credited as Prince Be the Nocturnal) and Jarrett Cordes (a.k.a. DJ Minute Mix), in 1988 in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The Cordes brothers' father died of pneumonia when they were children. Further family tragedy saw their baby brother Duncan drowned at the age of two. The two elder brothers were raised by their mother, and their stepfather George Brown, a founding member of Kool & the Gang.
P.M. Dawn contributed a cover of "You Got Me Floatin'" to the 1993 tribute record "Stone Free", a compilation album of 14 Jimi Hendrix songs by musicians ranging from Pat Metheny to Eric Clapton to Living Colour.
Mixing the swishing, flanged surreal sounds of the original, from the album "Axis: Bold As Love", P.M. Dawn added a layered hip-hop sound and a strong backbeat."

PM Dawn version LYRICS:
You got me floatin', 'round and 'round
You got me floatin', never down
You got me floatin', nat'rally
You got me floatin', float to please
Oh, you got me floatin' around and 'round
Always up, you never let me down
The amazing thing; you turned me on nat'rally
Oh and i kiss you when i please.
Hear what i'm sayin' babe......
(chorus)
You, you got me floatin'across and through
You make me float right on out to you
There's only one thing i need to really get me there
Is to hear you laugh without a care
What i say now babe.....
(chorus)
Now your, daddy's cool and your mama's no fool
They both know i'm head over heels for you
And when the day melts down into a sleepy, red glow
That's when my desires start to show.
(chorus)
"he just kept on goin'......."
