~ Pearl Jam - Alive
Views: 18955 | | | | | INFO ABOUT ALIVE:
Alive" is a song by the rock band Pearl Jam. "Alive" was Pearl Jam's first single, and appeared on the band's debut album Ten (1991). Written by guitarist Stone Gossard, "Alive" originated as an instrumental titled "Dollar Short" and ...More was included on a demo tape circulated in hopes of finding a singer for the group. Singer Eddie Vedder obtained a copy of the tape and wrote lyrics that describe a fictionalized account of the time when he was told that the man he thought was his father was not actually his biological parent.
Guitarist Stone Gossard wrote the music for the song, who called the piece "Dollar Short", in 1990 when he was still a member of Mother Love Bone. According to Gossard in an interview for Pearl Jam's VH1 Storytellers special, Mother Love Bone frontman Andrew Wood had even sang on it. After Wood died of a heroin overdose, Gossard and his bandmate Jeff Ament started playing with guitarist Mike McCready with the hope of start a new band. "Dollar Short" was one of five tracks compiled onto a tape called Stone Gossard Demos '91 that Gossard, Ament, and McCready circulated in the hopes of finding a singer and drummer for the group.
The tape made its way into the hands of vocalist Eddie Vedder, who was working as a gas station attendant in San Diego, California at the time. He listened to the tape shortly before going surfing, where lyrics came to him. "Alive" was the first song Vedder recorded vocals for. Vedder mailed the tape back to Seattle. Upon hearing the tape, the band invited Vedder to come to Seattle and he was asked to join the band.
The band, then called Mookie Blaylock, recorded "Alive" during a demo session at London Bridge studio in January 1991. This version recorded during this session would later appear on the group's debut album Ten and on the promotional "Alive" EP. During album mixing sessions in England during June 1991, mixer Tim Palmer had McCready add to the song's outro solo. McCready recorded a number of attempts at the solo, and Palmer edited them into a composite version. The guitarist was unsatisfied with the result, so he made another attempt at the solo. "He had another go at it", Palmer recalled, "and got it right away. There was no piecing together to do; it was one take."
The song has been revealed by singer Eddie Vedder to be part autobiographical and part fiction. When Vedder was a teenager, his mother revealed to him that the man he thought was his father was actually his stepfather, and that his biological father was dead. It is the first piece to a trilogy of songs unofficially called "Mamasan". It comprises the songs "Alive", "Once", and "Footsteps". "Alive" tells a story of incest, which leads to the killing spree described in "Once", and eventually looking back from a prison cell in "Footsteps".
The first and last verses detail the actual events described above, but the second verse is storytelling on Vedder's part: the lyrics read "Oh, she walks slowly across the young man's room/She said "I'm ready for you"/I can't remember anything to this very day/Except the look, the look/You know where/Now I can't see, I just stare," and Vedder revealed that "she" was the mother, and "the look" referred to was not the look on her face, but "the look is between her legs. Where do you go with that? That's where you came from."
Rather than being the inspirational song most interpret it as, Vedder had quite a different meaning in mind: "[He's] still dealing with love, [he's] still dealing with the death of [his] father. All [he] knows is "I'm still alive"...that's totally out of burden."
Vedder stated at Pearl Jam's VH1 Storytellers appearance that over the years the meaning has changed for him. He said, "In the original story, a teenager is being made aware of a shocking truth that leaves him plenty confused...It was a curse--"I'm still alive."" The audience's response to the song is what has brought about the change in meaning for Vedder. He added, "They lifted the curse. The audience changed the meaning for me."
The video for "Alive" was shot on August 3, 1991 during a Pearl Jam concert at RKCNDY in Seattle, Washington. It was directed by Josh Taft, a childhood friend of Stone Gossard, who would later direct the videos for "Even Flow" and "Oceans". Pearl Jam's future drummer Dave Abbruzzese was in the audience when the video was shot. It was his first encounter with the band as he'd just arrived from Texas and only knew the songs from the "Alive" single. He was recommended for the band by Matt Chamberlain, who can be seen drumming in the "Alive" video. The video was released in September 1991. "Alive" was the first non-lip-synched video shown on MTV. The video was nominated for Best Alternative Video at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. |

Views: 55562 | | | | | One, it not THE most underrated PJ songs.
Once divided...nothing left to subtract...
Some words when spoken...cant be taken back...
Walks on his own...with thoughts he cant help thinking...
Futures above...but in the past hes slow and sinking...
Ca ...More ught a bolt a lightnin...cursed the day he let it go...
Nothingman... (2x)
Isnt it something?
Nothingman...
She once believed...in every story he had to tell...
One day she stiffened...took the other side...
Empty stares...from each corner of a shared prison cell...
One just escapes...ones left inside the well...
And he who forgets...will be destined to remember...oh...oh...oh...
Nothingman... (2x)
Isnt it something?
Nothingman...
Oh, she dont want him...
Oh, she wont feed him...after hes flown away...
Oh, into the sun...ah, into the sun...
Burn...burn...
Nothingman... (2x)
Isnt it something?
Nothingman...
Nothingman... (2x)
Coulda been something...
Nothingman...

I wish I was a neutron bomb
for once I could go off
I wish I was a sacrifice
but somehow still lived on
I wish I was a sentimental
ornament you hung on
the Christmas tree, I wis ...More h I was
the star that went on top
I wish I was the evidence
i wish I was the grounds
for fifty million hands up raised and opened toward the sky
I wish I was a sailor with
someone who waited for me
I wish I was as fortunate
as fortunate as me
I wish I was a messenger
and all the news was good
I wish I was the full moon shining
off a camaro's hood.
I wish I was an alien
at home behind the sun
I wish I was the souvenir
you kept your house key on
I wish I was the pedal break
that you depended on
I wish I was the verb to trust
and never let you down
I wish I was the radio song
the one that you turned up
I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish
I guess it never stops... |

~ Eddie Vedder drinks bile beer
Views: 17763 | | | | | Ed Vedder drinking bile beer on the Jim Rose Circus, during Lollapalooza 1992
More info:
JIM ROSE: The bile-drinking contests started with [Soundgarden's ] Chris Cornell. There's an act in our show where one of my members—and it would be a different ...More one every day, because no one can do it really twice in a row—would force seven feet of tubing into their stomach through their nose, and we would pump in beer, ketchup, and mayonnaise. Then it was sucked back out, and the result became known as bile beer. One early stop on Lollapalooza, Chris came up and drank it. The very next day, Eddie came up and did it. Then for two days after, [Ministry's] Al Jourgensen came back on and did it. He started telling Eddie and Chris that he's drank more than they have. Well, Chris bowed out. But Eddie's right there every day drinking this stuff. At the end of the tour, Eddie says, "I have drunk two quarts more than you, Al, and I've won."
VEDDER: Just looking for attention, I guess. Every city there'd be some old friend or my wife's parents, and I'd get to gross everyone out. |

~ Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3: Sheeva Glitch (SNES)
Views: 25381 | | | | | YOU ARE REQUIRED TO READ THIS:
Alright, with that out of the way...
Sheeva herself IS in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. She was taken out because of all the extra characters being added in, they had to do a bit of trimming to make room. In normal gamepla ...More y, she's completely unavailable. However, there are two ways to access her.
The first way is to use a Pro Action Replay code for modifying Player 1's character. That code is:
7E36D00B
7E52C80B
This code allows P1 to be Sheeva, but if you change the last two digits, you can play as anyone in the entire game.
The second way is to go into the Endurance Mode (Hold L + R, then press "Start" at the Start/Options screen). Once you're there, do a Random Select. If you or your opponent ends up with the Endurance Mode icon (The E thingy), your opponent will be Sheeva.
What I've done here is show off what special moves you can, can't, and shouldn't really do with each character, as well as their throws.
I took out every male ninja's throw (except for Scorpion) simply because they all do exactly the same thing. I also did not include Human Smoke since he's basically the same thing as Scorpion. No point in creating repetition.
The music I chose was "World Wide Suicide" by Pearl Jam. Why? Because there's a lot of game crashes done in this video, so why not?
I let the clips run over at the end. My mp3 officially stops at the end of the final Shao Khan clip. There's a good reason for this. At the end of that clip, I have four clips showing what you can do if YOU are playing as the glitched Sheeva. Since she has no real sprites or animation, I wanted to show that I was indeed attacking by letting her voice be heard.
Now why do some of the edits seem choppy and everything goes so fast? Simple. I had about 6 1/2 minutes worth of video clips and I had to shorten it down by three minutes. If you can do it smoother, good for you.
I've put in a whole day's work on this. It's been good. |

Lyrics
--------
Once upon a summertime
Just a dream from yesterday
A boy and his magic golden flute
Heard a boat from off the bay
"Come and play with me, Jimmy
Come and play with me.
And I will take you on a trip
Far across the sea."
But the boat belonged to a kooky old witch
Who had in mind the flute to snitch
From her broom broom in the sky
She watched her plans materialize
She waved her wand
The beautiful boat was gone
The skies grew dark
The sea grew rough
And the boat sailed on and on and on and on and on and on.
But Pufnstuf was watching too
And knew exactly what to do
He saw the witch's boat attack
And as the boy was fighting back
He called his rescue racer crew
As often they'd rehearsed
And off to save the boy they flew
But who would get there first?
But now the boy had washed ashore
Puf arrived to save the day
Which made the witch so mad and sore
She shook her first and screamed away.
H.R. Pufnstuf,
Who's your friend when things get rough?
H.R. Pufnstuf
Can't do a little cause he can't do enough.
H.R. Pufnstuf,
Who's your friend when things get rough?
H.R. Pufnstuf
Can't do a little cause he can't do enough. |
