~ Distractions - Paul McCartney
Views: 1322 | | | | | The oblique "Distractions" was a song that greatly benefited from additional hearings of the track, a characteristic shared by few other tunes on "Flowers in the Dirt." The basic track was recorded at the Mill during the summer of 1988. A potent string ar ...More rangement by Clare Fischer was taped later in the year in Los Feliz, California at Chick Corea's Mad Hatter Studios in a 2-5pm session on November 1, 1988. The orchestra consisted consisted of fourteen violins, four violas, two cellos, and an acoustic bass. Also recorded during this session was an arrangement written by Fischer for the Macca/Costello tune "The Lovers That Never Were," but this take went unissued. At one point, "Distractions" was considered as the third single to be pulled from the LP with a tentative release date of September 25, 1989. Instead, "Figure of Eight" took its place. An alternate mix appears here as the soundtrack to the video included in the "Put it There" do#@!&entary. The studio clips featuring Paul, Chris, and Hamish appear staged for the videos purpose, and were possibly shot at the same time as the "Put it There" special. |

~ Paul McCartney - Same Time Next Year (Rare Track)
Views: 1258 | | | | | A song paul had recorded in 1978 and remixed in 1980. Another piece for his "Cold Cuts" project.
The song was recorded as the title track for the film Same Time Next Year in 1978, a movie that starred Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn. The number was rejecte ...More d in favour of 'The Last Time I Felt
Like This' by Marvin Hamlisch, because it was said that Paul's number 'gave away too much of the plot'. Paul's 'Same Time Next Year' was eventually issued on 5 February 1990 as a bonus track on the CD and 12" vinyl singles of 'Put It There'.
It was also released on disc #2 of the Japanese release of "Flowers In The Dirt".
Paul recorded the number at Rak Studios on 5 May 1978, with Laurence Juber making his first appearance as a member of Wings; it was co-produced by Paul and Chris Thomas. The following day it was
completed at Abbey Road Studios with a 68-piece string section, in an arrangement by Paul and Fiachra Trench. |

~ Paul McCartney robbers ball Cold Cuts by Paul
Views: 1231 | | | | | thanks to irishcircusgirl for the info-it is part of paul's Cold cuts group
info:Recorded in May 1980. Unreleased
Cold Cuts is probably the best known of the unissued McCartney projects. With a canon of unreleased music rivaled by few other artists, Pa ...More ul required an outlet for this material. The original concept was the release of a two record set comprising a disc full of hits - Hot Hits, and a second disc of leftovers, B-sides and unreleased material - Kold Kutz. Over the years, three finished lineups of the unreleased material have surfaced, each stronger than its precursor. The first collection was compiled in 1978 and ran roughly sixty minutes, gathering material from 1971 to the present. Due to record company pressure for product, this project was not completed, and Wings Greatest was sent to satisfy the Christmas market. Now known simply as Cold Cuts, the project was once again taken off the shelf following the Back To The Egg sessions. The Linda and Denny vocal spotlights were trimmed along with the instrumental material in favor of Paul's more commercial offerings. The final version to surface hails from the end of 1980 and consists of the same twelve tracks, albeit in a different sequence. It came about after Paul's self-imposed exile earlier in the year, when he pulled the remaining members of Wings together in October of 1980 to once again polish up the old tracks. A listen to these recordings begs the question "why weren't these released!", as most of them are superior to their contemporary relatives. Unfortunately, in the wake of John Lennon's death, the project was shelved again. In late 1987, additional production work was undertaken at Air Studios in London, by Paul, co-producer Chris Thomas and engineer Bill Price. The mixes of 'Mama's Little Girl' and 'Same Time Next Year' which appeared on the 'Put It There' single in February 1990, are from these sessions. |
