"Another Day" is a song recorded by Paul McCartney in New York in 1970, during the sessions for his album ...More Ram. It was released as a stand-alone single, the first of McCartney's solo career, on the Apple Records label in February 1971 with "Oh Woman, Oh Why" as the B-side.
"Another Day" is written in an observational style reminiscent of "Eleanor Rigby" and "She's Leaving Home". The lyrics describe the drudgery and sadness of an unnamed woman's life at work and at home, with the lilting melody of the verses and "du du du"s of the chorus contrasting with the darker tone (lyrically and musically) of the bridges. Linda McCartney provided harmony vocals. Her husband credited her as co-writer. However, this was seen as a business maneuver in the post-Beatles legal matters.
The song was a hit in both the U.S. and UK, achieving top-5 status on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching U.S. #5 and UK #2 in April of 1971.[1] In Australia the song spent 1 week at #1. In France was also a #1 hit.
Although neither "Another Day" nor "Oh Woman, Oh Why" were actually a part of any McCartney album, some CD re-releases of Ram have one or both songs as bonus tracks. "Another Day" has also appeared on several of McCartney's greatest hits albums, including Wings Greatest, All the Best!, and Wingspan: Hits and History, although it should be noted that the song definitely predates the formation of Wings. It is the first in a very long succession of solo McCartney hits.
This song is referenced in John Lennon's "How Do You Sleep?"
Lyrics:
Every day she takes a morning bath as she wets her hair,
Wraps a towel around her, as she's heading for the bedroom chair,
It's just another day.
Slipping into stockings,
Stepping into shoes,
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat.
Ah, it's just another day.
At the office where the papers grow she takes a break,
Drinks another coffee, and she finds it hard to stay awake,
It's just another day. Du du du du du
It's just another day. Du du du du du
lt's just another day.
Ay
so sad, so sad,
Sometimes she feels so sad.
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell,
Till the man of her dreams comes to break the spell.
Ah, stay, don't stand around
And he comes and he stays
But he leaves the next day,
So sad.
Sometimes she feels so sad.
As she posts another letter to the sound of five,
People gather 'round her, and she finds it hard to stay alive,
It's just another day. Du du du du du
It's just another day. Du du du du du
It's just another day.
Ay
so sad, so sad,
Sometimes she feels so sad.
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell,
Till the man of her dreams comes to break the spell.
Ah, stay, don't stand around
And he comes and he stays
But he leaves the next day,
So sad.
Sometimes she feels so sad.
Every day she takes a morning bath she wets her hair,
Wraps a towel around her, as she's heading for the bedroom chair,
It's just another day.
Slipping into stockings,
Stepping into shoes,
Dipping in the pockets of her raincoat.
Ah, it's just another day. Du du du du du
It's just another day. Du du du du du
It's just another day. |

Collins werkte met veel artiesten samen, waaronder: The Four Tops, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, ABBA's Frida, Mike Oldfield, Sting, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, Laura Pausini en The Who. |

Underappreciated and occasionally misunderstood, Across the Universe (2007) is the finest musical The Beatles never wrote. Brilliantly interpreted by Julie Taymor, the film presents a full-course trip for the eyes and ears without the requisite acid.
"I've Just Seen a Face", written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney (though mainly McCartney) for the album Help! (1965), and sung here by Jim Sturgess, displays a noticeably Simon and Garfunkel-esque meditational approach to falling in love.
Please support the film's legacy by purchasing a copy for your big screen TV; it is worth the investment! |

~ John Lennon - How Do You Sleep?

Copyright - 1971 EMI Records Ltd.
"How Do You Sleep?" is a song from John Lennon's 1971 album Imagine, in which he implicitly disparages former Beatles songwriting partner Paul McCartney. It features a particularly in ...More tricate slide guitar part played by George Harrison. Despite the overtness of the attack, Lennon later claimed that the song was more about himself than McCartney, and certainly one or two lines, notably "jump when your momma tells you anything", sound as though they are directed more at Lennon's relationship with Yoko Ono than McCartney's with Linda, though it could be seen as a reference to Paul's claims of hearing from his dead mother Mary in the song Let it Be. And the song begins with the puzzling statement "So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise", a sentiment which applies more to Lennon than McCartney, the latter having been the principal driving force behind creating the album.
The overwhelming impression of the song, however, is an attack on McCartney, such as in the lines "The only thing you done was yesterday/And since you've gone you're just another day." Considering the puns involved, these two lines particularly stand out since it was Paul McCartney who composed the Beatles' song "Yesterday" and also later in his solo career wrote "Another Day". Besides making satirical reference to other McCartney songs, the lyrics also refer to the Paul is dead hoax ("Those freaks was right when they said you was dead").
Lennon felt attacked by McCartney, who admitted that lines in the song "Too Many People" on the album Ram were intended as digs at Lennon (though Lennon and Yoko Ono thought the whole album was intended as such). The song "How Do You Sleep?" was their reply. McCartney's song "Let Me Roll It" on the album Band On The Run set an end to their public battle.
Recorded June 23, 1971-July 5, 1971
Lyrics:
So sgt. Pepper took you by surprise
You better see right through that mother's eyes
Those freaks was right when they said you was you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head
How do you sleep?
Ah how do you sleep at night?
You live with straights who tell you you was king
Jum when your mamma tell you anything
The only thing you done was yesterday
And since you've gone it's just another day
How do you sleep?
Ah how do you sleep at night?
A pretty face may last a year or two
But pretty soon they'll see what you can do
The sound you make is muzak to my ears
You must have learned something all those years
How do you sleep?
Ah how do you sleep at night? |

I can wait another day until I call you
You've only got my heart on a string and everything a flutter
But another lonely night (and another,
and ano ...More ther)
Might take forever(and another, and another)
We've only got each other
to blame
It's all the same to me love
'cause I know what I feel to be right
No more lonely nights
No more lonely nights
You're my guiding light
Day or night I'm always there
May I never miss the thrill of being
near you
And if it takes a couple of years
To turn your tears to laughter
I will do what I feel to be right
No more lonely nights
Never be another
No more lonely nights
You're my guiding light
Day or night I'm always there
And I won't go away until you tell me so
No I'll never go away
Yes I know what I feel to be right

Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere alone
It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickl ...More y
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over, starting over
Everyday we used to make it love
Why can't we be making love nice and easy
It's time to spread our wings and fly
Don't let another day go by my love
It'll be just like starting over, starting over
Why don't we take off alone
Take a trip somewhere far, far away
We'll be together all alone again
Like we used to in the early days
Well, well, well darling
It's been too long since we took the time
