~ Layla acoustic cover
Views: 58681 | | | | | layla eric clapton
"Layla" is the title track on the Derek and the Dominos album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, released in December 1970. It is considered one of rock music's definitive love songs,[2] featuring an unmistakable guitar figure, playe ...More d by Eric Clapton and Duane Allman, as lead-in. Its famously contrasting movements were composed separately by Clapton and Jim Gordon.
Inspired by Clapton's then-unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend George Harrison, "Layla" was unsuccessful on its initial release.[3] The song has since experienced great critical and popular acclaim. Two versions have achieved chart success, first in 1972 and again twenty years later. It is often considered to be Clapton's signature song.
Background
In 1966, George Harrison married Pattie Boyd, a model he met during the filming of A Hard Day's Night. During the late 1960s, Clapton and Harrison, as two of the top English guitarists of the day, became firm friends. Clapton contributed guitar work on Harrison's song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on The Beatles' White Album but remained uncredited, and Harrison played guitar pseudonymously on Cream's "Badge" from Goodbye. However, trouble was brewing for Clapton. His supergroups Cream and Blind Faith had broken apart, his growing drug use would lead to a life-threatening heroin addiction, and, when Boyd came to Clapton for aid during marital troubles, Clapton fell desperately in love with her.[4]
The title, "Layla", was inspired by a love story, The Story of Layla / Layla and Majnun (ليلى ومجنون), by the Persian classical poet Nezami. When he wrote "Layla", Clapton had recently been given a copy of the story by a friend (reportedly Ian Dallas)[5] who was in the process of converting to Islam. Nezami's tale, about a moon-princess who was married off by her father to someone other than the man who was desperately in love with her, resulting in his madness (in Arabic and Persian, Majnun, مجنون, means "madman"), struck a deep chord with Clapton.[4]
Boyd divorced Harrison in 1977 and married Clapton in 1979. Harrison was not bitter about the divorce and attended Clapton's wedding with Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. During their relationship, Clapton wrote another love ballad for her, "Wonderful Tonight". Clapton and Boyd divorced in 1989 after several years of separation.
George Harrison with Pattie BoydIn an interview with Songfacts, Bobby Whitlock, who was a member of Derek and the Dominos and good friends with both Harrison and Clapton, explains the situation between Clapton and Pattie around the time he wrote Layla:[6]
" I was there when they were supposedly sneaking around. You don't sneak very well when you're a world figure. He was all hot on Pattie and I was dating her sister. They had this thing going on that supposedly was behind George's back. Well, George didn't really care. He said, 'You can have her.' That kind of defuses it when Eric says, 'I'm taking your wife' and he says, 'Take her.' They got married and evidently, she wasn't what he wanted after all. The hunt was better than the kill. That happens, but apparently Pattie is real happy now with some guy who's not a guitar player. Good for her and good for Eric for moving on with his life. George got on with his life, that's for sure. "
After the breakup of Cream, Clapton tried his hand with several artists, including Blind Faith and a husband and wife duo, Delaney and Bonnie. In the spring of 1970, he was told that Delaney and Bonnie's backup band (bassist Carl Radle, drummer Jim Gordon, and keyboardist Bobby Whitlock) was leaving the group. Seizing the opportunity, Clapton formed a new group, Derek and the Dominos.[7]
In mid-to-late 1970 Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers Band joined Clapton's fledgling band as a guest. Clapton and Allman, already mutual fans, were introduced at an Allman Brothers concert by Tom Dowd.[8] The two hit it off well and soon became good friends. Dowd was already famous for a variety of work (including Aretha Franklin's cover of "Respect"), and had worked with Clapton in his Cream days (Clapton once called him "the ideal recording man"); his work on the album would be another achievement. For the making of his biographical do#@!&entary Tom Dowd and the The Language of Music, he remixed the original master tapes of "Layla",[9] saying "There are my principles, in one form or another."[8] With the band assembled and Dowd producing, "Layla" was recorded.
One night some time later, Clapton returned to the studio. He found Gordon playing a piano piece he had composed separately and convinced him to let it be used with the song. Roughly three weeks after the recording of its first three minutes, "Layla" was complete. |

Copyright - 1963 EMI Records Ltd.
"Ask Me Why" is a song by The Beatles originally released in the United Kingdom as the B-side of their hit single "Please Please Me" . It was also included on their first UK album, Please Pl ...More ease Me.
The song was mainly a John Lennon composition, written in early 1962, but it was credited to Paul McCartney and John Lennon, as were all other Lennon/McCartney originals on the first pressings of Please Please Me album. It was part of their live act prior to their recording contract, and was one of the songs performed at their Parlophone audition in Abbey Road's studio three on 6 June 1962. Complex in arrangement, it emulates the style of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, whom Lennon was influenced by, and the guitar phrase is drawn from the Miracles' "What's So Good About Goodbye" (1961).
"Ask Me Why" was recorded on 26 November 1962, the same day they attempted another Lennon and McCartney song called "Tip of My Tongue" which, along with "Ask Me Why" was also being considered for the B-side of the "Please Please Me" single. However, George Martin felt that "Tip of My Tongue" still needed some work, and it was eventually given to Tommy Quickly to record.
Other releases
Capitol Records, EMI's American counterpart to Parlophone, initially refused to distribute Beatle music in the U.S, and so the "Please Please Me"/"Ask Me Why" single was released by Vee-Jay Records on 25 February 1963.
Vee-Jay included "Ask Me Why" on version 2 of Introducing... The Beatles.
Capitol eventually released "Ask Me Why" in 1965 on The Early Beatles when Vee-Jay's rights expired.
Lyrics:
I love you
Cause you tell me things I want to know
And it's true
that it really only goes to show
That I know that I, I, I, I,
should never never never be blue
Now you're mine
my happiness dear makes me cry
And in time
you'll understand the reason why
If I cry it's not because I'm sad
But you're the only love that I've ever had
I can't believe, it's happened to me
I can't conceive of anymore misery
Ask me why, I'll say I love you
And I'm always thinking of you
I love you
Cause you tell me things I want to know
And it's true
that it really only goes to show
That I know that I, I, I, I,
should never never never be blue
Ask me why, I'll say I love you
And I'm always thinking of you
I can't believe, it's happened to me
I can't conceive of anymore misery
Ask me why, I'll say I love you
And I'm always thinking of you, you, you |

~ The Beatles - Ticket To Ride

Copyright - 1965 EMI Records Ltd.
"Ticket to Ride" is a song by The Beatles from their 1965 album, Help!. It was recorded 15 February 1965 at Abbey Road Studios and released two months later. In 2004, this song was ranke ...More d number 384 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
The song was written primarily by John Lennon, with Paul McCartney's contributions in dispute. Lennon said that McCartney's contribution was limited to "the way Ringo played the drums". McCartney said that was an incomplete response, and that "we sat down and wrote it together... give him 60 percent of it... we sat down together and worked on that for a full three-hour songwriting session." Lennon said the double-time ending section (with the lyric "My baby don't care") was one of his "favorite bits" in the song.
Meaning of "ticket to ride"
The inspiration of the song is unclear, and several plausible explanations exist:
"a British Railways ticket to the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight" (McCartney to Barry Miles)
"a girl riding out of the life of the narrator"
a phrase coined by John about the cards indicating a clean bill of health, handed out to Hamburg prostitutes in the 1960s (Don Short to Steve Turner) (the Beatles played in Hamburg early in their musical career, and "ride/riding" being slang for having sex)
Other explanationsattribute the song to the experience of Lennon's mother leaving the family when he was a child, and the possibility that Lennon was exposed, perhaps by Little Richard in Hamburg, to the Negro spiritual "If I Got My Ticket, Can I Ride?".
A popular myth (perpetrated by Casey Kasem) was that the song was written and recorded as "Ticket to Rye," but the official name of the song was changed for the sake of American and international listeners who would not understand the reference to the town in East Sussex, England.
Release
"Ticket to Ride" was released on 9 April 1965 in the UK and 19 April in the U.S. with "Yes It Is" as its B-side, topping the Hot 100 for a week in the US and the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in the UK. The original single's label declared that the song was from the United Artists release Eight Arms to Hold You. This was the original title of The Beatles' second movie; the title changed to Help! after the single was initially released.
Critical acclaim
Both Richie Unterberger of All Music Guide and author Ian MacDonald describe "Ticket to Ride" as an important milestone in the evolution of the musical style of the Beatles. Unterberger said, "the rhythm parts on 'Ticket to Ride' were harder and heavier than they had been on any previous Beatles outing, particularly in Ringo Starr's stormy stutters and rolls." MacDonald described it as "psychologically deeper than anything The Beatles had recorded before ... extraordinary for its time — massive with chiming electric guitars, weighty rhythm, and rumbling floor tom-toms. Macdonald also notes that the track uses the Indian basis of drone which might have influenced the Kinks' See My Friends.
Lyrics:
I think I'm gonna be sad, I think it's today, Yeah
The girl that's driving me mad is going away
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
but she don't care
She said that living with me is bringing her down, yeah
For she would never be free when I was around

She's got a ticket to ride
but she don't care
I don't know why she's riding so high

She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think right
She ought to do right by me
I think I'm gonna be sad, I think it's today, Yeah
The girl that's driving me mad is going away, yeah, oh
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
but she don't care
I don't know why she's riding so high
She ought to think right
She ought to do right by me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She ought to think right
She ought to do right by me
She said that living with me is bringing her down, yeah
For she would never be free when I was around
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride

~ There is no comparison between the Beatles and the Jonas Brothers
Views: 19281 | | | | | I made this video to try to convince ignorant people that The Beatles are better than The Jonas Brothers. I am in no way comparing the two bands by saying that they are similar. I am contrasting them in the sense that I am stating their differences. I don ...More 't even like the Jonas Brothers.
There are so many reasons as to why The Beatles are better than the Jonas Brothers.
Musical talent, songwriting abilities, critical acclaim, impact, and many others.
Also, The Beatles indulged in certain substances, which makes them considerably cooler than The Jonas Brothers. Rock bands are supposed to get into trouble, have sex, and do drugs. Not be good little boys.
Beatles songs used to demonstrate how they are more musically talented:
1. Helter Skelter
2. The End
3. Twist and Shout
4. Hello Goodbye
Jonas Brothers songs used to demonstrate how they are not as musically talented as the Beatles
1. Their version of Hello Goodbye
2. SOS
3. Mandy
4. Burning Up
Some other points as to why The Beatles are better. When The Beatles preformed live it was only the four of them. Unlike the Jonas Brothers who use a backing band onstage. While the Beatles did have hordes of screaming girl fans, they also had a huge following of male fans, the Jonas Brothers aren't as fortunate in this respect. They are objects for girls to stare at and fawn over, most guys are repulsed by them and find their music comical.
Sorry the video quality isn't that great.
P.S. I am a girl, since in the comments most people have been saying I am a guy :) |
