~ Ambulance Blues
Views: 1390 | | | | | A cover of a masterpiece from a great underrated 70s classic, On the Beach (1974). Dark, moody and scary Neil=Neil at his best. Less instrumental parts than the original so the running time is cut down to around 7.5 minutes. I don't own a Bb harmonica so ...More I supplemented acoustic guitar fills. This has that and vocals overdubbed onto the original rhythm track. Of course, I don't have a great mic'ing system rigged up so it doesn't always come through great. Hope it's satisfactory at least. |

"On the Beach" is a bluesy meditation on the downside of fame. For nearly two decades, rarity made a cult out of On the Beach. The title was deleted from vinyl in the early 1980's and only briefly released on cassette—the old slip case style, as well as 8-track tape. On the Beach headed the list of most-desired albums not released on CD.
In 2007, On the Beach was named the 40th Canadian Album of All Time in Bob Mersereau's book The Top 100 Canadian Albums.
This Neil Young cover first turned up at a soundcheck for the Maida Vale show. An acoustic set by Thom and Jonny for BBC Radio 1 on December 8th. This song was first broadcast on December 22 on BBC 6MUSIC. When this recording was made is not exactly sute. It could be that same soundcheck.
This is the fourth cover of a Neil Young song that has been performed. Te band have played 'Cinnamon Girl' on various live shows in 2001. 'After the Goldrush' was performed by Thom Yorke in 2001 for the Bridge School Benefit and 'Tell Me Why' in Los Angeles on August 25th.
LYRICS:
The world is turnin'
I hope it don't turn away
The world is turnin'
I hope it don't turn away
All my pictures are fallin'
from the wall where I placed them yesterday.
The world is turnin'
I hope it don't turn away
I need a crowd of people
But I can't face them day to day
I need a crowd of people
But I can't face them day to day
Though my problems are meaningless
That don't make them go away
I need a crowd of people
But I can't face them day to day
I went to the radio interview
But I ended up alone at the microphone
I went to the radio interview
But I ended up alone at the microphone
Now I'm livin' out here on the beach
But those seagulls are still out of reach
I went to the radio interview
But I ended up alone at the microphone
Get out of town
Think I'll get out of town
Get out of town
Think I'll get out of town
I head for the sticks with my bus and friends
I follow the road
Though I don't know where it ends
Get out of town
Get out of town
Think I'll get out of town
'Cause the world is turnin'
I don't want to see it turn away |

~ Neil Young - Last Dance - Time Fades Away-original
Views: 2499 | | | | | The 1973 Live album, Time Fades Away, marks the first LP in Neil Young's early 1970s Ditch Trilogy (see also: On The Beach, Tonight's The Night). Somehow, 30+ years later, with the vinyl long out of print, it has yet to see the light of day in terms of a ...More proper CD release. This is most definitely due to numerous accounts of Neil Young disparaging the album as his "worst," which is unfortunate, because if you like your Shakey with a little dirt on 'em, Time Fades Away is as good as it gets. |
