~ Lotta Love-overdub cover
Views: 3160 | | | | | Me singing and playing guitar over a gorgeous little tune (though not even in the top 3 from the seminal LP Comes a Time) from 1978. Neil is a hero o' mine and I just want to play along to his thing, see what other musicians think. With high-tech recordin ...More g equipment, this would sound quite good I think. |

~ Neil Young - Lotta Love - Malvasio
Views: 502 | | | | | Great song from Neil's "Comes a Time" with a great cover by Nicolette Larson.
Lotta Love
ts gonna take a lotta love
To change the way things are.
Its gonna take a lotta love
Or we wont get too far.
So if you look in my direction
And we dont ...More see eye to eye,
My heart needs protection
And so do i.
Its gonna take a lotta love
To get us thru the night.
Its gonna take a lotta love
To make things work out right.
So if you are out there waitin
I hope you show up soon,
cause my heart needs relatin
Not solitude.
Gotta lotta love
Gotta lotta love.
Its gonna take a lotta love
To change the way things are.
Its gonna take a lotta love
Or we wont get too far.
Its gonna take a lotta love
To change the way things are.
Its gonna take a lotta love
Or we wont get too far |

~ Nicolette Larson - Rhumba Girl
Views: 1825 | | | | | Issued March 1979 on Warner Bros 8795.
Nicolette Larson was born in Helena, Montana, and grew up in Kansas City. Following graduation from school, she moved to San Francisco, working with the Golden Gate Country/Bluegrass Festival. She began her singi ...More ng career with David Nichtern & The Nocturnes, moving on to work with Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen for three years. During the time she worked with Cody, Nicolette moved to Los Angeles and sang on albums by Hoyt Axton, Neil Young, Guy Clark, Linda Ronstadt, Jesse Colin Young, Graham Nash, Rodney Crowell, John Stewart, The Doobie Brothers and Jesse Winchester, from whom she learned this song.
Nicolette signed with Warner Bros in 1978, and had a huge hit first time out with Neil Young's "Lotta Love." The next single was this state-of-the-art cover of Jesse Winchester's "Rhumba Man," reworked for the female point of view. It only made #47 in the US when issued at the end of March 1979. In Canada, it entered the RPM 100 on April 14th at #90 with a bullet, and spent three weeks at #15 at the end of June and into July.
Her debut album was produced by Ted Templeman, and featured a stellar cast of Los Angeles' best musicians. Nicolette sang on dozens of major records by major stars, but was unable to duplicate her initial solo success. She crossed over to country, but none of her records made the Top 40 Country charts. "That's When You Know Love's Right," a duet with Steve Wariner, went to #9 in 1986. Following a 1987 album that failed to chart at all, she retired, and spent the next period of her life with her husband, drummer Russ Kunkel, and their daughter, Elsie May.
Nicolette Larson died on December 16, 1997 in Los Angeles from a cerebral edema, at the age of 45.

~ Led Zeppelin - Down by the Seaside
Views: 3431 | | | | | "Down by the Seaside" is a song by English rock band Led Zeppelin from their 1975 album Physical Graffiti. It was originally written as an acoustic piece by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at Bron-Yr-Aur, the cottage in Wales where they went after their 1970 ...More concert tour of the United States. It was then recorded in 1971 as an electric arrangement and was intended for release on Led Zeppelin IV but was held over and eventually placed on Physical Graffiti to fill up the double album.
The song alternates between soft and hard-rocking sections, with the lighter sections employing a tremolo effect on the guitar, or possibly by running it through a Leslie speaker, to give an 'underwater talking' feel. John Paul Jones plays an Hohner "Electra-Piano" electric piano on the track.
"Down by the Seaside" was never performed live at Led Zeppelin concerts.
Plant would later record "Down by the Seaside" as a duet with Tori Amos for the 1995 Led Zeppelin tribute album Encomium. Plant is a huge fan of Amos and wanted to get a different take on the song by having her sing while he played guitar. Tori Amos herself is a huge Led Zeppelin fan.
The song was influenced by Neil Young. The title may be a reference to the song "Down by the River" and the somewhat nasal inflection in Plant's vocals may be an homage to Young's distinctive voice. Plant had long admired the work of Young and Stephen Stills. While in the Band of Joy, he covered Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth", now available on Plant's compilation album Sixty Six to Timbuktu. Also, Plant sang lyrics from "On the Way Home," another Buffalo Springfield song, during "How Many More Times" at the Royal Albert Hall performance found on the Led Zeppelin DVD release. Additionally, during performances of "Dazed and Confused" in 1975, Plant often employed lyrics from "Woodstock," a Joni Mitchell song most familiar in its Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young incarnation. Plant also occasionally included "Cinnamon Girl" and "For What It's Worth" in the "Whole Lotta Love" Medley. |
