An excellent album, is a combination of heavy metal during the first half and melodic/progressive in the second half, just like Dream Theater does. I really like it.
The DVD shows the making of the album.........is like a "reality show" of the entire album, very interesting. There are interviews to the members, some funny things during the recording and technical info of the recording process.
In addition, I live in Chile and I did not have any problem with the payment and the arrival date.

I love it. It is the best of Images and Words and Awake with the refinement of all the other works in between. It is balls to the wall, hard core playing with emotion and excellent musicianship. By far my new favorite album from the band.THey have their true Dream Theater sound fulfilled on this album.

2008-03-28 -- 1/5:: Sorry. But it's true.
You would have to search the world to find a bigger DT fan than me. I didn't want to rush this review, as there have been a few of their albums (TOT and FII leap to mind) that took a while to grow on me.

But unfortunately, time is NOT making this album any better.

Musically, it's not bad. It's nothing we haven't heard from DT before. Although the arrangements have more of the DT complexity than the (By their standards) simplicity of "Train of Thought", it didn't really blaze any new ground musically.

That in and of itself is not enough to get a bad DT CD review out of me though. They can keep hammering away at what they're doing, and I'm still happy.

No, the problem with this CD is that the lyrical content is so utterly juvenile that it distracts from the overall listening experience. With the exception of "Prophets of War", which reminds us for the fourth time "The Great Debate", "In the Name of God", and "Sacrificed Sons" making up the first three) that DT should stay away from political songs, the lyrics sound precisely like the kind of drivel I wrote at age 13 when I was listening to too much Iron Maiden.

There are good spots on the album. Nothing I would go so far as to describe as a good song, although "The Dark Eternal Night" had the lyrical content sounded a little less like 12 year olds trying to scare one another around a campfire. Even "Forsaken", a musical high spot, was ruined for me when I listened to it the first time and said "Dear lord, please tell me this isn't a song about a female vampire".

I love the band. These are truly the four most gifted musicians on the face of the earth. And James LaBrie's voice is in outstanding shape, improving with every album while he is at an age where mortal vocalists are watching their range and skill set decline.

But I'm truly sorry to say that this is their worst album ever. The second worst (Falling Into Infinity, IMO) is so much better that if I had it to do over again, I would have bought a second copy of it instead of one of this.

The sad part is that a new fan might hear this and think this is what the band is usually like. I would BEG them to check out "Scenes From a Memory", "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence", "Awake", Images and Words", and "Train of Thought". If you like what you hear (And you will), and you're curious enough to check this one out, please take it with a grain of salt and try not to judge a band by its worst album. Dream Theater deserves better.

This album is great, every song is played with alot of emotion and the instrumental is out of this world....Catchy and Melodic but Progressive and Technical at the same time....This is Dream Theater's best album since Scenes from a Memory IMO.
