Circus
Circus is the seventh album by Britney Spears. It rolls into town on the heels of an MTV VMA awards sweep, where Britney walked away with three Moonmen awards for 'Video of the Year', 'Best Female' and 'Best Pop Video' for 'Piece Of Me'. Circus is the follow up to her critically well received album, Blackout, just in in time for her 27th birthday. The lead single, 'Womanizer' (produced by the up and coming Atlanta production team The Outsyders) has already created a frenzy amongst Britney fantaics, radio and the media alike-underscoring Britney's continued reign as one of the Queens of Pop.
2009-01-06 -- 3/5:: Other CDs are better...
The person I gave this to was a big Britney fan and was very excited, but when she listened to it- she said her other CDs are better.
2009-01-05 -- 1/5:: The album cover says it all.
The cover of this album makes me think "If you polish a turd, it's still a turd". Plus the look in Britneys eyes on the cover makes her look insane. One reviewer said Britney only co-wrote two songs on this album, well duh when has Britney, or any manufactured, no-talent, auto-tuned hack ever wrote their own music. This whole style of "Music" is based on posing no-talent "artists" that can't write or sing their own songs. It's all fake. Just dance half nude and lipsync...why people buy this crap and talk about it like it's real music that was actually written by a real aritst is beyond me.
2009-01-05 -- 5/5:: Britney...Like A Circus
BY FAR HER BEST! I am a long time Britney Fan and I can honestly say I can't stop listening to every song on this album!
2009-01-02 -- 3/5:: It is a Circus trying to put her back on top....
A little over a year since "Blackout" was released. Britney's handlers rush her to record and put out another comeback album, although "Blackout" was a crital success but a commercial flop, "Circus" isn't really a Britney record. This record is just another attempt to solidify Brit's position as a pop diva and send her on a money generating tour. The quality isn't as futuristic as "Blackout" but her vocals isn't as enhanced as "Blackout" either. We all know that Britney isn't the best singer out there, but at least on "Circus" she's giving some effort. Especially on "Kill the Lights", one of my fave tracks.
2009-01-02 -- 3/5:: Disappointing return with a couple of good tracks
Let me state upfront that I don't listen much to commercial radio anymore (feel free to ask me why...), so I generally am not familiar with the chart-toppers of the Billboard Hot 100, etc. As was the case with Britney's album from last year "Blackout" (which was not nearly as bad as one could've feared), I saw the new album at my local library and couldn't resist picking it up.
On "Circus" (13 tracks; 46 min.), Britney continues the efforts to regain commercial clout (goal accomplished) and critical acclaim. Overall, I was quite disappointed with the opener and No. 1 chart-topper "Womanizer", which sounds so... ordinary, frankly. Things are a little better with the title track (another hit), but things go really wrong with "Kill the Lights" and other slower tracks like it. In the end, there are two stand-out tracks on here" "If U Seek Amy", a great dance track, and, even better, the short but irresistible ""Lace and Leather".
Released only a year after "Blackout", the album has too many uneven moments for me. To me, the obvious thing to do is to take the best material from last year's "Blackout", add the best tracks from this album, and voila, the ultimate Britney comeback album is ready. That said, I've seen her in concert several times, and she ALWAYS puts on a great show, and if she tours anywhere close to Cincinnati, I'll be there.
